Volkswagen Group is now the largest seller of electric cars in the UK. - VW has sold almost 26k EVs so far in 2024 - Tesla in 2nd place, at c. 22k - BMW Group close behind at >19k For VW, this implies 10x growth in EVs: 26k, up from just 2.5k in H1 last year. VW now have >17% of EV market share vs. 8.% in 2023. Phenomenal progress. It's an exciting time for the market as car makers catch up with Tesla - get ready to watch great competition for these top spots. VW are still behind on their Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) targets - having sold a whopping 24% of ALL new cars bought in the UK so far in 2024. However, the industry collectively is performing well with EV sales, so there should be opportunities to trade credits with others to help them meet target. BMW, on the other hand, are smashing their EV target - alongside Mercedes-Benz AG and MG Motor AE too, who are still sell petrol / diesel cars. Well done! The Kia Tasman was revealed yesterday. It is boxier and a bit underwhelming compared to renders, and pricing hasn’t been confirmed. While it probably won’t really compete for the true off-roader, perhaps that’s not the market they are going for? If pricing was competitive vs others, perhaps the aim is the commercial market? As a tradie, will you care about the power or torque if the price is right, comfort is high, and you have a 7 year unlimited km warranty?
