Hi all! As some of you may know, I am currently training for a half marathon in May, and an additional half marathon in July. For my July half marathon, Run Melbourne, I am proud to be fundraising money on behalf of VACCA - Victorian Aboriginal Child and Community Agency.
VACCA supports children and families through various means, including: providing youth services (Koorie Kids Stay @ School, Barreng Moorop Youth Justice Program), establishing out-of-home support (foster care, kinship care, respite), tackling family violence, and facilitating legal access via justice support programs.
This cause means a great deal to me due to the far-reaching inequities Indigenous Australians are more likely to face. According to a 2024 ABS report, 41% of households experienced food insecurity and 29% of children aged 15 and over smoked daily. Additionally, AIHW reported that 60% of children in detention in the 2024 June quarter were Indigenous.
If you have any money to donate, big or small, it would mean a great deal to me. You will also be contributing to fixing the systemic inequities attributed by colonisation and years of oppression.
In Australia, donations of A$2 and over are tax deductible.
