The creative minds behind each successful advertisement must find a way to make it emotionally appealing, highlight why their product or service is unique and memorable, build credibility and trust, and most importantly - understand what drives their target audience. When you deeply understand your audience - their needs, desires, pain points, and motivations, you can craft a message, visuals, and emotional appeal that resonate directly with them. That’s the same foundation you must build for any message you convey. Today’s ad is the Mercedes-Benz EQC Commercial below. Have you ever made a video when you made a video ? I was just able to use the moment to make my own video, the footage from which was used as part of another episode of Hustle & Chill Podcast It was my dream as a cameraman to shoot a car in dynamic motion on the road, among the forests. For such a shoot, the points I would emphasize to myself are very important: 1) A camera with good autofocus or on manual focus and have a focuspooler on the crew. I shot on a Sony FX3 with excellent autofocus in the body. What can I say - Sony is Sony  2) Preparation of camera movements and frame size. This is the job of the operator and his task is to shoot a tasty and selling shot. Look for references, see similar examples. 3) For this kind of shoot, I would prefer an electronic stabilizer for a smooth image when the car is moving on the sides. And the dynamics of movement can be added in post-production through camera shake. 4) SAFETY. Yes, this is the most important point for this type of shooting. Seat belts, secure camera mounts are important. It is important not to lose not only equipment but also the health of the team members. Super Bowl commercials serve as an excellent opportunity to gauge current trends or overused techniques in cinematography. Here are a few observations from 2024: The wide and close lens. Ads shot primarily with wide lenses have been super popular in the past few years. I often see them keeping the camera closer to talent and shooting from a lower angle. Although this one may be beginning to phase out, I still quite like the look. Color grading is leaning towards either a clean, bright, and natural look, or a split-tone, saturated, and low-contrast style. Video walls were only noticeably used in two ads. This suggests that the industry is moving in the right direction by using them more subtly. I was relieved to see less of that shot where the camera rapidly moves up into the talent's face, often handheld. This one has been extremely overused by now. Most of the current trends I’m noticing seem to have been around for a while. I'm curious to see what techniques will emerge for the rest of the year. My prediction is we will see more snorri-cam shots, and camera movement that intentionally breaking of the fourth wall, for example, picking up the camera from the ground and framing it up during the shot. The initial episode of That '70s Show revolves around the quintessential teenage fantasy: Red Forman, the father, bestowing the keys to the Vista Cruiser upon his son, Eric. The Vista Cruiser, an undeniable star of the series, plays a crucial role in the show's first seven seasons, serving as a backdrop for dialogues and becoming the focal point of various storylines. I can really relate to the Vista Cruiser because my Mom drove one around the time I was 10 years old. It was a very big station wagon with a smooth ride, powerful engine and a glass you could peak through somewhere over the back seat. The design had a roof that was a little higher in the back and the transition had a narrow glass that looked like a small windshield. This design feature is why they called it the "Vista" Cruiser. Brought to the market by Oldsmobile across three generations from 1964 to 1977, Eric's specific model hails from the second generation, manufactured between 1968 and 1972. It features a standard 350-cubic-inch V-8 engine, translating to 5,700 cc or 5.7 liters, and is available with either a two- or three-speed automatic transmission. As the series concluded, Fez himself, portrayed by Wilmer Valderrama, acquired the Cruiser from Carsey-Werner for a cool $500.
