The #tourismsector is highly vulnerable to external disruptions, but #crises offer an opportunity to assess how destinations adapt. This study by Xiaoying (Eden) Jiao and colleagues highlights two key overlooked factors in past research on destination #resilience: the duration of a crisis's impact (temporal) and the geographical scale affected (spatial). To address these gaps, the study introduces a comprehensive spatiotemporal framework to measure destination resilience in terms of resistance and #recovery. Using Europe's international tourism response to #COVID19 as a case study, the research provides valuable insights and policy implications for enhancing resilience in the tourism sector. Have a nice week!

#Glaciertourism has boomed in recent years. The ice attracts people for many reasons: to fulfill a bucket list dream, get up close to a natural phenomenon, or simply for #adventure. But there’s also another motivation increasingly present — the desire to see the glaciers before they disappear. It’s called “#lastchance tourism” and it’s a growing market, said Jackie Dawson, an associate professor at the University of Ottawa who has researched the phenomenon. While tourism has so often been about firsts — the first to climb a #mountain or sail a stretch of water — now it’s also about lasts, she told CNN. https://lnkd.in/dkejBSnF #tourism #Tourisminsights #pakistan #tourismindustry #AtharJ #ecotourism #sustainabletourism #sustainability #sustainabledevelopment #tourismmarketing #60seconds #TourismDay #WorldTourismDay #tourismandpeace

Tourism as an instrument for Peace. Tourism, often highlighted for its role in economic development, also plays a significant role in fostering peace. On a global level, where nations are interconnected and interdependent, Tourism, an industry made by people and for people, emerges as a compelling and dynamic force to defy stereotypes and challenge prejudices. World Tourism Day, under the theme "Tourism and Peace", wants to highlight the vital role of this sector in fostering peace and understanding between nations and cultures and in supporting reconciliation processes. #WorldTourismDay #worldtourismday2024

The rapid global changes, driven by higher living standards and technological advancements, have made travel easier but also intensified environmental, socio-cultural, and demographic impacts. While tourism is inevitable, it is too crucial to leave unmanaged. Destination managers, policymakers, and industry leaders must adopt responsible tourism to safeguard tourist satisfaction, community well-being, and future generations. Just as in renowned theorist and political scientist Francis Fukuyama's The End of History, tourism has now reached its own endpoint, signaling that it is time to usher in a new era.
