Your team is most likely already diverse, even if consists of Finns only. 😱 Last week I watched a panel discussion on the topic of "Paradox of Diversity and Talent" organized by Nordic Inclusify ry. There were a lot of different insights and angles to look at the topic voiced. My favourite one was the one in the headline. If your organization is interested in the topic of diversity, you don't have to start from hiring someone new for that. Your team is most likely already diverse, even if Finns-only. Start from supporting and embracing that existing diversity. It might help you to understand specific steps and also get the feeling of how it is to actually support different employees with different needs. The simplest example I can give is menstruation talk at work. For example, agree in advance on whether one can work from home on the first days of their period. Make sure the office toilet has menstruation supplies in case of unexpected period. Etc. You name it! Destigmatizing periods as a thing to consider HR-wise at work is something I've been personally interested in exploring. In my opinion, within the Finnish companies, that change is easy to make and all team members will only benefit from understanding that part of life better. You can read more about my opinion on that at the post in the comments. Thanks for raising this important issue! Currently our startup Ailune is working on making sanitary products available in all public washrooms in Finland for free of charge. Our main aim is to fight the stigma around period. This is my favorite post ever in the world! I highly recommend Carmen Lorenzana (She/Her) always bringing value into the work place on this conversation ❤️
