🚨 A ‘Quad-Demic' Threat This Winter—Experts Warn Americans 🚨 Experts warn of a surge in Flu, COVID-19, RSV, and Norovirus cases this winter. With rising hospitalizations and positivity rates, it's crucial to take precautions: Get vaccinated: Stay updated on COVID, flu, and RSV shots. Mask up: Especially in crowded or high-risk areas. Practice good hygiene: Handwash thoroughly—norovirus isn't killed by hand sanitizer. Avoid crowded spaces and maintain social distancing where possible. Let’s protect ourselves and our communities this holiday season. Stay informed, stay safe! #HealthTips #WinterWellness #StaySafe #ELAKHealth

New CDC recommendations emphasize cleaner air to protect against respiratory viruses like COVID-19, flu, and RSV. As National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases Director Dr. Demetre Daskalakis emphasizes, “The bottom line is that when people follow these actionable recommendations to avoid getting sick, and to protect themselves and others if they do get sick, it will help limit the spread of respiratory viruses, and that will mean fewer people who experience severe illness." We urge fellow health organizations to promote these guidelines for healthier communities: bit.ly/49ktY8D

Folks feels like I am back in Covid Times Colleagues ill and work force challenges in GP Sick people - young and old! And sick aged care folk - our ED busy! PLs encourage Vaccinations Use tools and supports https://lnkd.in/gXxvvbyP https://lnkd.in/gqDR_cmf And onsite https://lnkd.in/gDrv2eeV And ask colleagues and colleges!! ‘Alarming’: Flu vaccination rates fall over 12% NewsGP (AUS), Monday 3 June 2024 The latest data from the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance shows dramatic drops in influenza vaccinations across Australia, with an average fall of 12.2% nationwide compared to the same time last year. The figures are the lowest in the available data on the NCIRS website. The biggest drop seen from 2023 to 2024 was 16.7% in influenza vaccinations for those aged six months to five years old. RACGP Vice President Associate Professor Michael Clements told newsGP the statistics are ‘alarming’ but an obvious result of the squeeze on general practice services. ‘It’s certainly a sign that people are accessing their GP less and less, due to both cost and because fewer GP appointments are available,’ he said.

🌍 Thursday Public Health Alert: Weekend Threats & GIPHP’s Ongoing Efforts As we approach the weekend, here are key public health threats that have emerged this week, along with how the Global Initiative for Public Health Protection (GIPHP) is addressing them: COVID-19 Variants: The continued rise in new variants emphasizes the need for updated vaccinations. GIPHP is working closely with local authorities to expand access to vaccines and ensure communities receive up-to-date information on preventive measures. Flu and RSV: Flu and RSV cases are spiking, especially among children. GIPHP is spearheading campaigns to boost vaccination rates and advocating for stronger health policies in schools and childcare centers to reduce transmission. West Nile Virus: This mosquito-borne illness continues to be a concern, particularly in areas with stagnant water. GIPHP advises local governments on effective mosquito control measures and raises awareness about personal protection through educational outreach. Beyond these immediate concerns, GIPHP is committed to creating lasting impacts in communities severely affected by public health emergencies. Through sustained partnerships with governments and organizations, GIPHP provides support by: Facilitating mass vaccination campaigns in underserved regions. Providing technical advice and emergency health response plans to local health departments. Educating communities on preventive measures through ongoing awareness initiatives. By working collaboratively, GIPHP ensures that those most vulnerable to public health threats are protected today and have the resources and knowledge to face future challenges. Stay informed, protect yourself, and take preventive steps as we head into the weekend. Together, we can reduce the spread of these public health threats. #PublicHealth #GIPHP #COVID19 #FluSeason #RSV #WestNileVirus #Vaccination #Prevention #HealthAwareness #GlobalHealth

Viruses and bacteria that can be relatively harmless to the average adult can be life-threatening to young infants whose immune systems are often not strong enough to protect against infections. In a new #HealthierTogether video, produced for us by BBC StoryWorks Commercial Productions, we highlight the need for additional tools, such as maternal immunization, to continue to fight infectious diseases as well as the innovative vaccine technologies we believe can help protect more people against such diseases. Watch as one mother shares her family’s experience with group B strep (GBS), a common bacterium that can cause potentially devastating illness: https://lnkd.in/etbpQhqS #MaternalImmunization #GroupBStrep

As we approach RSV season, it's crucial to understand who's at risk and how to protect ourselves. RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) can affect anyone, but certain groups are more vulnerable: 1. Infants and young children, especially premature babies 2. Adults between 60-74 with any underlying risks 3. Everyone over the age of 75 4. People with weakened immune systems 5. Those with chronic heart or lung conditions To protect yourself and loved ones: • Practice good hygiene (frequent handwashing) • Avoid close contact with sick individuals • Keep surfaces clean and disinfected • Consider RSV vaccination for eligible high-risk individuals If you or a loved one fall into a high-risk category, consult your healthcare provider about preventive measures and potential vaccination options. Stay informed, stay safe! #RSVAwareness #PublicHealth #PreventiveCare

🌍 Today is #WorldPneumoniaDay! Did you know that pneumococcal disease causes 1.6 million deaths globally each year ❓ #Vaccination plays an important role in preventing this disease. 🚨 Pneumococcal diseases include illnesses like pneumonia, meningitis, bacteraemia, and sepsis, and can be very serious, especially in older adults, children under one year of age, or those with a weakened immune system. 📢 Pneumonia is caused by several infectious agents, including viruses, bacteria, and fungi. The most common cause of bacterial pneumonia in children is the bacterium Streptococcus pneumoniae. #PneumococcalDisease refers to a group of serious diseases which can often be spread from person to person, much like flu and colds, including through sneezing, coughs, and direct contact. 💡 Preventing pneumonia in children is an essential component of a strategy to reduce child mortality. Immunization against Hib (Haemophilus influenzae type b), pneumococcus, measles and whooping cough (pertussis) is the most effective way to prevent pneumonia ❕ #prevention #Women4Health
