Women’s health startup ELANZA Wellness (Techstars NYC) has announced its first crowdfunded launch from the company’s newly formed endometriosis care division. The EverythingEndo app is designed to help people with endometriosis self-manage symptoms from home, to complement clinical care. The fundraising campaign is live on Kickstarter. “This is an invitation for individuals affected by endometriosis to have a real impact on shaping a platform for them that resonates with their unique needs, actively participating in the process of backing and building it,” says ELANZA Wellness co-founder, Brittany Hawkins. “Together we can make faster progress.” The team says joining Kickstarter is also a chance for those who believe in Femtech innovations to not only support a much-needed product but to add their voice to the global effort to advance options for those with underserved women’s health conditions. It’s interesting to see more in the news about prenatal and postpartum care. One thing fueling this is the plummeting birth rates we're seeing in various parts of the world. Of course, having healthy babies and healthy parents is crucial, but positively affecting the birthrate for a country is also a huge deal and solutions that focus on every aspect of parents' physical and emotional wellbeing will only increase. Today's Global Wellness News features news of San Francisco-based health-tech Aster's $2.4M seed round. Postpartum wellness is also one of our 2024 top trends, more here: https://lnkd.in/e-RWnMuN https://lnkd.in/eVa_z7BQ #femtech #wellness

This looks like I have written it :) I would add: Considering prevention as a distinct focus is important, as it often gets overlooked when combined with care. Supporting those living with dementia is crucial, but it is equally important to focus on those not affected. Therefore, substantial funding should be allocated to prevention efforts. #brainhealth #dementia #funding #TechnicalUniversityofMunich

For everyone who's been following the Flo Health Inc. fundraise controversy + Ida Tin of Clue's illuminating posts: Male sexual health and wellness platforms Ro and hims & hers were both founded in 2017, and had no problem raising huge amounts of funding from male VCs. Roman raised $88million in their FIRST YEAR (yes, you heard me, FIRST 12 MONTHS); Hims raised $197million IN THEIR FIRST YEAR. They faced no advertising barriers, unlike all of us, and so were able to scale rapidly, expand into more areas of health and wellness and raise more funding. While female founders can’t get funded, Hims was able to expand into Hers hims & hers for women. Ro raised a further $85 million in 2019 and $200 million in 2021 at a $1.5 billion valuation. Hims raised $100 million in 2019 at a $1 billion valuation. Hims went public in 2021 at a valuation of $1.6billion. Today, Axios reported, 'The future of hims & hers — a digital-first health platform that offers content, telehealth and drug treatments related to skin care, sexual performance and mental health — may be more hers than hims. Why it matters: An intensifying focus on women's health in the U.S. has emerged since the overturn of Roe, including an executive order for more research and new investments flowing into areas including menopause, maternal and postpartum care and pain treatment. Between the lines: "For the most part, the existing health care system — for better or worse, and mostly worse — was built by men, for men," Hims & Hers co-founder and CEO Andrew Dudum told Axios on Tuesday in an interview for the "Leading Indicator" show from Public, an investing platform. Women's health care in the U.S. has been underfunded and neglected despite women outnumbering men since 1946. But there's "a really huge opportunity" to serve women with health care services around menopause, hormonal balance and dermatology, Dudum says.' SO WHY DO YOU THINK VCS AND INVESTORS ARE FALLING OVER THEMSELVES TO FUND WHITE MALE FOUNDERS WHO START #FEMTECH BUSINESSES, BUT FLATLY REFUSE TO FUND FEMALE FOUNDERS? I've said for decades, there's a huge amount of money to be made out of taking women seriously. But apparently, investors only take women seriously when they can fund men making money out of us, not we ourselves - the founders who know us best. For everyone following the Flo Health Inc. funding controversy and Ida Tin of Clue's excellent posts, a flashback to another controversy three years ago when male-founded Ro had raised so much funding and been able to run so much advertising, that they decided to expand into women's health, and acquired female-founded Modern Fertility - best summed up in this TechCrunch quote. Note that both startups, the male-founded one and the female-founded one, were founded in 2017, and note the disparity in the valuation amounts: 'Ro, a digital elective care and telemedicine provider last valued at $5 BILLION, announced today that it has acquired Modern Fertility, a reproductive health company founded in 2017. Axios estimates it sold for $225 million in a majority-stock deal.' See link in comments for what happened next. #FundFemaleFounders Natasha Mascarenhas https://lnkd.in/eCGvAXNB

Globally, about 1 in 6 people suffer from infertility. And, after struggling to get pregnant with my #2 & 4, I'm now counted in the mix. I had a support system during my fertility journey - but I know not everyone is so lucky; And this was a major reason I was thrilled to add a fertility services non-profit to my roster of clients. After successfully offering education, funding and support services to individuals struggling with infertility, my client was ready to grow into new locations. The touble was, like many other companies, growing meant organizing their processes, getting clear on their mission and setting goals for long term growth - a challenging tasks and hardly an "insider" job. That's precisely why I was brought in. Rather than scramble language together for grant applications and react to the needs of those they serve, my client chose to pause and bring in "outside" expertise to build a comprehensive handbook and framework from which to grow. Our 🤝 partnership approach worked well: + Interviewed countless stakeholders + Identified program challenges and opportunities + Highlighted questions & categorized steps + Ensured consistent internal communication - with sensitivity & more The epic 🚀 transformation: Now they've codified a process for entering a new city, built a handbook for the entire team to reference and crafted leadership langauge to ensure mission alignment as they bring on new folks. Here’s the thing: Being humble enough to say "an outside eye will do this process good" isn't easy... especially as the leader. But, often, it's the only way to see the forest for the trees - a crucial part of growth strategy. In the case of this client, it was the key to making sure more families could access the support they needed. 💜 --------- Hi. I'm Jessi and I'm a content engineer. Today marks the start of Spinal Muscular Atrophy Awareness Month, making it the perfect time to shine a light on this condition that affects one in every 10,000 Australians. Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is a genetic condition, often referred as the childhood version of motor neurone disease, however it can also affect teenagers & adults. SMA impacts the motor neurons in the spinal cord, which are responsible for sending messages from the brain to the muscles. When these messages aren’t received, the muscles gradually weaken & deteriorate (atrophy). This progressive muscle weakness can make daily activities that most people don't think twice about, like walking or playing, increasingly difficult, sometimes leading to a feeling of isolation when unable to join in on activities with others. SMA does not impact cognitive abilities & those with SMA can think, learn, build relationships & achieve great things just like anyone else. Here's why raising awareness about SMA is so important: 💭 Empowering early action: increased awareness can lead to earlier diagnosis, a critical factor in managing SMA. Early intervention can significantly improve quality of life for those affected 💭 Fuelling research breakthroughs: the more people who understand SMA, the more support there is for research. This fuels the development of new treatments & ultimately the hope for a cure. A great example of this is the recent inclusion of SMA in bloodspot screening for WA babies 💭 Building a more inclusive world: by raising awareness, we create a more informed & supportive community. This can lead to better access to resources, improved accessibility in public spaces & a more inclusive environment for everyone Raising awareness about SMA isn't about dwelling on the challenges, but about focusing on the potential for a brighter future. It's about advocating for a world where effective treatments are readily available & those with SMA have the resources & support they need to live fulfilling lives. One of the families we support in their journey with SMA is the Stewart family. Please take the time to watch their story 💜
