🌌 Advancing Collaboration in Space Security 🌌 We’re excited to see initiatives like the #USSPACECOM Space Cooperation Board driving forward the integration of allies and partners to strengthen space security. 🚀 At UC2, we share the belief that collaboration across organizations and disciplines is essential to addressing the complex challenges of today and tomorrow. This year's SCB, co-chaired by leaders from USSPACECOM, the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Space Policy, and the USSF Assistant Chief of Space Operations for Future Concepts and Partnership, exemplifies how strategic alignment can shape the future of global security efforts. As we continue fostering innovation through academic partnerships, we look forward to contributing to similar dialogues that emphasize ethical research, interdisciplinary approaches, and workforce development to ensure resilience and readiness across all domains—on Earth and beyond. 🌍✨ #CybersecurityInnovation #CollaborationInAction #SpaceSecurity

Our new paper: What Will Happen in the First Space Hostage Crisis? – September, 2024 Gordon Roesler - Marc Feldman - Patrick Lin While the concept may seem far-fetched, there is a high probability that malicious actors will take hostages in space in the near future. The growth of space as a commercial sector and critical military area of operations makes such an incident almost inevitable. Given current US policies, capabilities, jurisdictional conflicts, and force structures, however, such an event will likely lead to sub-optimal crisis handling by the US government. This paper explores the potential for hostage-taking in space and the deficiencies of existing countermeasures and incident response processes—along with possible solutions that can avert the worst outcomes in the future. https://lnkd.in/erJXakB4

Attending the AUSA convention at the heart of my nation's capital gave me an opportunity to analyze the range of defense contracting companies small, large, private, and public- as potential candidates for my department's portfolio. They offer investment potential, but more importantly, they reflect the evolving landscape of global security. Yet, as I speak of defense, it’s impossible to ignore the toll of the ongoing conflicts that we see today. The loss of civilian lives, the displacement of families, and the reshaping of states/nations are deeply tragic. These events should remind us that while technology and strategy progress, the human cost of war remains painfully high. In the end, it’s not just about how we invest our resources, but how we invest in a future that values peace as much as it does progress.

In testimony to the Senate Armed Services subcommittee, U.S. defense officials stressed the importance of increased investment in space capabilities to retain #SpaceDominance. John D. Hill and Gen. Michael A. Guetlein warned of growing threats from China and Russia, prompting the Pentagon to allocate $33.7 billion in its 2025 budget for space programs. Key priorities include #SatelliteCommunications, #MissileWarningSystems, and collaboration with allies. Moreover, the integration of #CommercialSpaceTechnologies is critical to strengthening the nation's defense architecture, ensuring resilience and #NationalSecurity against emerging #counterspace threats. The urgency for action stems from adversaries' efforts to close the space dominance gap, necessitating continued investment in innovation and joint-force capabilities to safeguard national security. https://lnkd.in/eFtQg_8b #SpaceWarfare #SpaceForce #USDefense #InnovationInSpace #StrategicInvestments #SpaceResilience #SatelliteCommunications #MissileWarningSystems #DefenseBudget2025 #USAllies #InteroperabilityInSpace #CounterSpaceCapabilities #SpaceSecurity #SpaceArchitecture
