EMPOWERING CHANGE: YRC PARTICIPATION PROGRAM REFLECTION Participating in the Youth Red Cross (YRC) program was an eye-opening journey that ignited a passion for community service within me. The program's diverse initiatives, spanning from blood donation drives to health awareness campaigns, provided a multifaceted approach to social impact. YRC's emphasis on education was evident through insightful training sessions, equipping us with essential skills and knowledge. What set this program apart was its commitment to hands-on experience. Engaging in activities like organizing health camps and cleanliness drives allowed me to directly contribute to the betterment of society. Collaboration was a cornerstone of the program, fostering a strong sense of teamwork. Working collectively towards common goals amplified our impact, reinforcing the idea that collective action can drive meaningful change. The most rewarding aspect was the tangible difference we made. Whether it was educating communities or participating in relief operations, each effort had a ripple effect, leaving a positive imprint on those we reached. YRC's participation program has not only broadened my understanding of social issues but has also inspired a lasting commitment to being an active agent of change in my community.

Here is a post that introduces the topic of objectification. This topic is from the perspective of aging and the incentive that triggered a focus on it through my teaching, coaching and mentoring focus. One of the ways to present it will be through self-care however this post demonstrates a fuller application of a teaching practitioner and how I observe it, objectification, and have a choice in how to handle it. All of us have experienced it yet either don't address it or believe it is a normal experience. Both topics are worthy focuses of attention: objectification in groups and aging. I am chuffed about expanding my portfolio. I have been surprised by a few recent community interactions at the base note of these experiences. I thought unrealistically that we had evolved. They are good teaching points of how a community can portray itself as an open-minded, helpful, charitable, upstanding and fair group yet not have the ability to behave with the qualities to stay in those characteristics when they respond from reactions and make unhealthy alliances. With current global news, I suspect this will be a hot topic. https://wp.me/p17H3e-eFJ

We have recently published an update to our original research, ‘Poverty + Prosperity in Kensington + Chelsea’ and although there has measurable progress, there are also some very sobering statistics: - 33% more children are on Free School Meals - higher than London and national averages; - life expectancy differences between residents in different wards have increased to nearly two decades; - there has been a decrease in permanent school exclusions but fixed term exclusions are still high and are a factor in poor education outcomes and - there has been a 28% increase in Mental Health referrals. In the 3 years since our last report, we have raised over £4 million and helped over 17,000 residents improve their skills and employment potential, to improve their mental health, or improve their education outcomes. We know it can be done and we believe that the borough has sufficient philanthropic capacity to have real, tangible impact on some of these issues. The thriving, but overburdened, voluntary sector delivers effective, person-centred support. With sustainable funding, we can help local groups to scale up and reach the residents who are most in need of support. Please read our new report and get in touch to talk about how you can get involved. We also ask that you share this report, and help us to bring more of our community together together to make the borough better for everyone. https://lnkd.in/eeuZqVCH

Scarce resources. Limited tailored support. Parents facing time challenges. Poor coordination between agencies. Families shouldn't slip through the cracks because of broken systems. If we want to truly want to make a difference, it's time to rethink how our organizations support parents. One of the biggest challenges agencies face when supporting families is operating in silos. This leaves parents feeling overwhelmed and underserved—and we can do better. First, we need to prioritize collaboration. When we work together, we’re stronger and more effective. Tools that improve communication can make meaningful changes and offering flexible service hours helps meet parents where they are. But the real key? Tailored support. Generic solutions won’t cut it. Every family is different, and the way we help them should reflect that. Yes, resources may be tight, but creative community partnerships can close the gap. When we break down these barriers and respect parents' time, we build systems that truly empower families and set children up for success. What ways do YOU help break down barriers to serving parents?

Through life experiences and health concerns, and a previous 20 year hospitality career, I am on a mission to change lives. I am passionate about people, support & development. “Together We’re Stronger”
🌱Making a Difference, One Community at a Time: Introducing Trust In Community🌳 My name is Scott Clewlow, and I'm not just someone who talks about making a positive impact, I'm someone who gets things done. My journey began with a personal fight for my own health, followed by witnessing the harsh realities faced by low-income families – including my own father with Parkinson's disease. I saw firsthand the gaps in support services, particularly around mental health, exercise, diet, and nutrition. 💡 But instead of despair, I found purpose. I founded Trust In Community (TiC) – a CIC driven by the core belief that everyone deserves a chance to thrive, regardless of their circumstances.🫶 **TiC's Mission:** But instead of despair, I found purpose. I founded Trust In Community (TiC) – a CIC driven by the core belief that everyone deserves a chance to thrive, regardless of their circumstances. *Alleviate hunger and provide healthy meals:* We've already delivered food packages to over 50 homes, prioritizing families identified by schools as most in need. This week, we'll extend our support to Charles Saer and Flakefleet schools. *Empower families to manage and budget:* We help families, not just with immediate needs, but by equipping them with the tools to overcome challenges. We advocate for healthy eating on a budget and provide practical meal planning support. *Nurture healthy minds and bodies:* We understand the link between physical and mental well-being. We're working with schools to offer support around emotional resilience, exercise, and healthy nutrition for children. **The Impact We're Making:** *Direct intervention:* Nearly 20 families from critical lists at Thornton Primary and Shakespeare Primary have benefitted from our food support. *Growing partnerships:* We're actively collaborating with schools, family support teams, and other community organizations to amplify our reach and impact. *Changing lives:* We're not just about filling empty bellies, we're about building sustainable pathways to long-term well-being and development. **The Way Forward:** The demand for TiC's services is growing rapidly. Social Media Strategist Specialising in Education | Chair of Governors at an Outstanding Primary School | Safeguarding Governor at Private Day School | Transforming Engagement for Schools.
I often speak to school leaders who say they would love to have their stakeholders, particularly parents, more engaged with their setting. Particularly in secondary school. When my children went off to secondary school, I hated it. I didn’t get to hear what they were doing, I heard from them what they needed for certain lessons, and not getting that information directly from their teacher often meant I got to know the night before, or even that morning - never forget the call at 8.45am that he’d forgotten he needed a sword and a box of French Fancies for some drama project at 10am! Schools are in a unique position when it comes to their social media in particular. Parents and caregivers want to celebrate their child’s school. How many businesses can say that their audience is actively waiting to see posts from them? Not many. Milk it for all it’s worth. You’ve got an engaged audience, ready and waiting to help you celebrate success. It’s never been easier to: ✅ Celebrate your school. ✅ Share your team’s and pupil’s achievements. ✅ Point families to revision tips and study help. ✅ Communicate upcoming events. ✅ Talk about charity work and helping their community. We work with schools who are doing a fantastic job with this. Are you using it to your advantage?

Reposting in support of EdRuption's vital mission to bridge the digital divide and support student mental health and wellbeing! Through partnerships, EdRuption is working to ensure schools have the digital infrastructure, devices, training, and mental health resources their students need to thrive. But they need more support to expand their impact. If you're able to volunteer time, donate resources, or spread the word, please reach out to the EdRuption team. Let's come together to help EdRuption provide digital access and mental health support for all students, no matter their postcode. This is how we can support our #digitalNatives. #MentalHealthAwareness #Wellbeing #DigitalWellbeing #CallToAction #EducationEquity #EdTech #DigitalTransformation

📞 ✨CALL TO ACTION 📞 ✨ Today is the final day of #MentalHealthAwareness week and youHQ and EdRuption are on a mission, can you help? Jon Ford reached out to me a few months ago asking for digital support for some schools who are unable to engage in the mental health and wellbeing app because their schools don’t have access to technology or infrastructure to allow its deployment. Of course I said yes…. BUT when I thought about it, it seemed crazy to talk to schools about something they cannot change due to funding and budget. The local authority also cannot help due to their lack of funding and restrictions either - hands are tied. Our education system is failing young people. So EdRuption are on a mission, I reached out to many people, for support and I have been able to get some from ✨the wonderful Al Kingsley who is donating his time, ✨Meshii WiFi who are AMAZING and are hosting a webinar for the schools next week on their next steps for this FREE access to WiFi for them, ✨Edge Computing who are offering to review and support the buy back of old outdated technology as well as support in ways to get hold of refurbished devices We also hope to leverage Primary Goal once we have everything in place to build capacity. We have reached out to The Prince's Trust & Agilico who have grants and funding which we hope to apply for and gain. BUT There are more pots out there.. I know I’ve been told, some since Covid have closed down (ironically due to lack of funding) EdRuption is helping to build the individual school strategies… including parent out reach to bridge the gaps we have in our parent cohorts knowledge! But we need more pots! We have to educate everyone to support our #digitalNatives become strong healthy adults… no matter their postcode! We can battle the effects of poor digital use with structure, support and strategy - in schools digital health starts with a strong digital strategy built on vision, safeguarding and pedagogy. It is our job to educate. Our goal: - ensure infrastructure is in place - build safeguarding bad governance - connect schools with devices - train and build capacity - support communities develop skills for the future ABOVE ALL Support for mental health and wellbeing 🙌🏼✨❤️ #CallToAction #MentalHealth #Wellbeing #DigitalWellbeing This Morning Live Amanda Bickerstaff Andrew Elias Leicestershire County Council Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust Richard Branson Riz Ahmed Rishi Sunak Tony Blair Institute for Global Change Louise Mayor Henry Platten Gillian Keegan Mark Steed Mark Leppard MBE Dan Fitzpatrick Darren Coxon British Chamber of Commerce Abu Dhabi Prince Harry Windsor Ruth Warder Priya Lakhani OBE Rob Stokoe OBE Dr Fiona Aubrey-Smith Dr Neelam Parmar FCCT Whitney Wolfe Herd Ujjyaini Mitra Kimberly Bryant Jane Frankland Emilie Choi Jennifer Stirrup (She / Her / Hers) Lakshya Sivaramakrishnan

Money is not the only way you can help people Sharing your knowledge, expertise, and experiences with someone who could benefit from your guidance can be incredibly valuable. Mentoring can occur in various settings, such as career mentorship, academic tutoring, or personal development coaching. Small gestures of kindness, such as holding the door open for someone, offering a listening ear to a friend in need, or complimenting a stranger, can brighten someone's day and make a difference in their life. Teaching someone a new skill or helping them develop existing ones can empower them to improve their lives. This could include teaching someone to cook, sew, code, or play a musical instrument. If you have specialized skills or knowledge, such as legal expertise, medical training, or IT skills, you can offer your services pro bono to help individuals or organizations in need. Engaging in activities that strengthen communities, such as organizing neighborhood clean-up events, hosting community gatherings, or participating in local initiatives, can foster a sense of belonging and connection among residents. Remember, even the smallest acts of kindness or generosity can have a ripple effect and make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
