⚫What are the large black dots placed around the F-35? Raytheon's Electro-Optical Distributed Aperture System (EODAS) is a revolutionary sensor suite that gives the Lockheed Martin's F-35 unparalleled 360-degree situational awareness. Unmatched Awareness and Survivability The EODAS provides F-35 pilots with a full spherical view of their surroundings, utilizing six high-resolution infrared cameras strategically mounted around the aircraft. These cameras work together to deliver real-time, high-definition imagery directly to the pilot’s helmet-mounted display (HMD). This system not only enhances situational awareness but also significantly improves survivability in the most challenging environments. Advanced Sensor Integration The F-35’s EODAS seamlessly integrates with the aircraft’s other systems to provide a comprehensive operational picture. From passively detecting missiles and navigating through severe weather to providing infrared search and track (IRST) capabilities, the EODAS does it all. "For Stratolaunch’s second powered Talon-A mission, scheduled for the second half of this year, it wants to push the uncrewed aircraft’s envelope further. The goal is to reach hypersonic speeds and to demonstrate reusability, landing the system on a runway. Talon-A’s first powered flight provided some data to U.S. Defense Department customers, including the Pentagon’s Test Resource Management Center, which is developing an airborne hypersonic test capability called SkyRange. The next flight will take that partnership a step further, with SkyRange’s advanced sensors tracking the mission. It will also be the first flight to support the Pentagon’s Multi-Service Advanced Capability Hypersonics Test Bed program, or MACH-TB. BREAKING XQ-67A first flight footage released. The Air Force Research Laboratory successfully flew the first of a second- generation of Autonomous Collaborative Platforms known as the XQ-67A demonstrator, built and flown in the Off-Board Sensing Station (OBSS) program Feb. 28, 2024. The AFRL Off-Board Sensing Station program is the validation of a design, build and test process that has resulted in the XQ-67A. It is the first of its kind to be built on a common chassis or genus — much like that of a motor vehicle frame — and with its first successful flight, the XQ-67A is proof that the genus approach works. This enables a faster and more cost-effective replication of the aircraft. This new approach also responds to the challenge of great power competition by speeding delivery of affordable, advanced capabilities to the warfighter. The XQ-67A is remotely piloted but is capable of autonomous flight.
