Product Manager - Equity, Diversity & Inclusion including Ergonomic & Assistive Technologies at Hypertec Ltd
This week is National Epilepsy Week. According to the World Health Organisation there are 50 million people in the world with Epilepsy, 630,000 within the UK. What do you do if one of these 630,000 people work for you? Here’s a few tips for reasonable adjustments - seizures can be caused by tiredness, fixed shifts can help continuity and help people who do have seizures triggered in this way. - making the office environment safer in the case of seizures - Memory loss is a common theme. Make sure managers back up conversations with email to all or provide note taking solutions if the person would like them. The key thing, as with any reasonable adjustments is to TALK and more importantly LISTEN. It is easy to jump to conclusions about what people need to help. Sit down and discuss the individuals experience with epilepsy. What are their triggers? what is the frequency? are there any warning signs? what support do you need? This should be used to inform reasonable adjustments and form the basis of a seizure action plan to share with first aiders & line managers if they are happy for you to do so. Epilepsy Society have produced a video to explain in peoples experience, what epilepsy is and what the impacts are. The full video is 20 minutes and a great watch, I’ve included the trailer here for you to watch. Hypertec Ltd https://lnkd.in/ePABmbD3
