The U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging, led by Senator Bob Casey, has launched an investigation into A Place for Mom, a senior care referral service, due to allegations of deceptive practices. The probe focuses on claims that the service steers families toward facilities that pay high referral fees, often leading to seniors being placed in a substandard or overpriced care environment. Read more about it in the NBC News article.

I wrote this article several years ago. We we continue to uplift October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, I invite you to read it, share it, and take action in your places and spaces of responsibility. I've been speaking, advocating, and training on topics related to domestic violence, economic abuse, and prevention for over a long time. "Why doesn't she/he leave" is still being asked by people in all walks of life. I shared a few in the article and can provide you with entire workshops, presentations, and keynotes for a deeper dive into that question. But what we really should be asking and answering is...Why does he/she abuse in the first place? What can we do individually and collectively to implement preventative strategies? What tangible resources are available for a safe and sustainable transition. I can provide you with some ideas around that as well. There must be more emphasis placed on these questions with a thoughtfulness around solutions for a public health issue that will continue long after the month of October comes to an end. #domesticviolence #prevention #publichealth #economy #awareness #healthandwellness

Experienced physician executive with a commitment to improving clinical outcomes and a passion for addressing healthcare disparities| Host of Crossing the Chasm, DEI podcast
"The effectiveness and perceived legitimacy of protective laws may be limited by the co-occurring harmful laws and political contexts that support discriminatory lawmaking, especially when protective laws depend on continued budget appropriations.40 Many states in the most protective class had potentially harmful laws (for example, related to racial profiling) that policy makers may need to address to reduce rates of and racialized inequities in premature mortality, including legal domains that could not be used in this analysis because virtually all states had harmful laws (for example, “stand your ground” laws) at the time of the study. These countervailing effects may be part of the wide variation in premature mortality rates, particularly among Black adults across the classes." In a Crossing the Chasm podcast (https://buff.ly/3tKi893), I discussed the link between the the legal system and health inequity. This is another perspective that highlights not only the overlap but the outcome. We celebrated Dr. King's holiday earlier this week and we should continue to take the time to identify that his work must continue. #healthinequity #structuralracism #dei #MLKday https://buff.ly/3Hgt0yo
