I often see behavioral changes in aging dogs that stem from sensory impairments and cognitive decline. These changes can lead to increased anxiety and a loss of confidence, impacting their overall emotional well-being. Environmental changes or the loss of human or pet companions can also add to their stress. It's crucial to recognise and address these shifts with understanding and patience. In my latest series with Vitabiotics Ltd I will be discussing ways we can support our senior dogs, helping them navigate emotional challenges with dignity. #VeterinaryCare #AnimalBehaviour #seniordogs

Vet Med Will Rise You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it. -Maya Angelou Anyone who knows me knows my deep admiration for Maya Angelou. This past Christmas my partner got me this painting and I am obsessed. It has quickly become one of my most prized possessions. I think of this qoute often when I look at her. I think how it is not failure to have to step back and reset. I think about how sometimes in vet med we feel like if we step away it means we failed. When in fact, that is not true at all. What is true is that caring for your needs is the most important. The pets will be there when you come back. The clients will be there when you come back... and the staff? The staff will see that you love your job so much, that you love the pets so much, that you love YOURSELF so much that you needed to heal to be better for them and you. We are profession made up of the most amazing people on the plant. We might have so much compassion that it fatigues us. We love so big we deplete our energy and drain our cups. BUT we are resilient, we know how to heal (we need to heal ourselves and not just the pets/clients more often) and we will always rise. I rise. I rise I rise. #mayaangelou #stillirise #vetmed #love #vettech #veterinary #veterinarymedicine

Join us at SPVS Congress 25th-27th January 2024! ㅤ We will be running a workshop focusing on understanding and addressing discrimination, using our Cards Against Inclusivity to delve into scenario-based discussions. ㅤ We'll also examine the concept of labelling employees as 'difficult' when their actions or behaviours become problematic in the workplace. Most people are trying their best but often they are facing unseen or unknown challenges meaning they fall short of what we need. Chronic illness, neurodivergence, mental health difficulties, stress, burnout and personal challenges can all lead to individuals being labelled ‘difficult’. If we are to create a sustainable workforce we need to start to examine and understand what might lead people to act and behave the way they do. ㅤ Don’t miss your chance to attend!
