Do you know how much plastic there is in synthetic clothes? Laundering alone causes around half a million tons of plastic microfibers to be released into the ocean every year - the equivalent of releasing almost three billion polyester shirts into the ocean. Here's how our product innovation can help. Our Microplastic Filter can capture up to 90% of microplastic fibers being released from synthetic clothing during laundering, supporting consumers who want to take care of their clothes while reducing their own environmental impact. The filter, designed to fit on the laundry wall and made from 50% recycled plastic, works with both Electrolux and AEG washing machines. Plastic → Clothes 👕 6 steps: 1. 6-8 large post-consumer PET plastic bottles (for a recycled t-shirt) 2. The bottles are clinically washed 3. The plastic bottles are then shredded to flakes 4. Next, the plastic flakes are melted into tiny pellets 5. The pellets are extruded and spun into soft yarn 6. Lastly, the yarn is woven into modern, sustainable clothing #clothinginnovation #clothing #machinery #climatechange #recycle #plastictoclothes #ecofashion #sustainablefashion #plasticfreefashion #reducereuserecycle #environmentallyfriendly #fashionrevolution #ethicalfashion #greenfashion

Brands continue to be on the hunt for a more sustainable alternative to the ubiquitous clear poly bag. These plastic bags are typically used to protect apparel and other goods from factories to distribution centers to retail locations and consumers' homes. While they serve an important purpose (ensuring that goods get to end consumers damage-free), they leave behind mounds of plastic film, and are one of the most frustrating #packaging items for brands and their customers. Replacing the clear #polybag is not an easy task. Brands are finding success moving to glassine bags, which are curbside recyclable and naturally biodegradable. Others are investing in #recycled poly bags and programs to maximize the recycling of these bags at #warehouse and retail locations. Others are exploring even more innovative solutions, such as roll wrapping and tying with twine. Every alternative comes with pros and cons, on both the #sustainability and functionality front. Our cheat sheet gives you a quick overview of our various solutions and when to consider each. We're also here to help you navigate this decision can develop a testing and implementation program to ensure the alternative you transition to is a success. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gdPUs6MY

Clothes are typically not accepted in regular recycling bins because they require special handling and processing. Recycling bins are primarily designed for materials like paper, plastic, glass, and metal, which can be quickly sorted and processed at recycling facilities. However, clothes can be recycled separately through textile recycling or home pickups. If adequately packed and stored, we can ensure that clothes are properly reused, repurposed, or recycled to reduce waste and environmental impact. 👟🌊 In the face of our global plastic crisis, one company is making waves by turning single-use plastic waste from the ocean into thread for recyclable shoes. Australian fashion brand, aciae, works to eliminate waste from every step of its production process. The innovative approach transforms gathered plastics into thread, which is then used to create machine-washable, waterproof, and fully recyclable shoes. Working with organisations like Unifi Manufacturing, Inc. (makers of REPREVE® ), Aciae sources plastic-based threads for a line of designs that use ocean-bound plastics. By turning a global scourge into something useful and reducing reliance on virgin materials, Aciae is setting a powerful example for the fashion industry.🌍 #SustainableFashion #CircularEconomy #ZeroWaste #Oceans #Innovation #InnovationThatMatters

Have a look at this article that raises awareness on the plastic hidden in our clothes, shoes, textiles. It is interesting how the article takes a very technical angle on the clothing items themselves, while I expected more coverage on the consequences of washing and machine drying of clothes. Besides the waste streams associated to textiles, on a daily basis, washing machines that exhaust to water and dryers that exhaust to air connect the dots between plastics from textiles and the environment (water and air). #plastics #circular #economy Source: https://lnkd.in/ejmyhQVb

❗ How did the Plastic turn into the CottonThread? ❗ Check this out. ⚡ The process is not very complicated: When it is spun, after being cut into very small particles, it goes through a high-temperature process, then it becomes like candyfloss, and after cooling, the spinning process can begin. ☁️ 🧶🧵 Recycling is a part of preserving the environment and keeping it clean. ♻ Therefore, Textile companies don't need to grow or buy cotton for their products, they can simply buy recycled plastic. In general, the idea or project is easy to work on. I'm interested in your comments, so please leave a comment. #SustainableMaterials #RecycledPlastic #ecofriendly
