Internships are essential for gaining professional experience, but they differ significantly between countries. Introducing Ida Hugander, one of our interns, who is spending her summer working with the Analysys Mason team in Sweden. We caught up with her to see how her experience has been so far: Q: What was your most significant learning experience during your internship? Ida: It was working on a report about the Swedish mobile market. I updated data for the major operators and analysed recent trends and regulations in the sector. Additionally, I reviewed the results of the 2023 spectrum auction and identified key takeaways. Although I was initially unfamiliar with the TMT sector, I embraced the challenge and gained a deeper understanding of its complexities. This project not only expanded my knowledge but also enhanced my proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint. Q: Can you describe a project or task you’re particularly proud of? Ida: I am particularly proud of my contribution to a project on equality and sustainability. I conducted research, reached out to potential contacts, and assisted with PowerPoint presentations. The project's goal was to promote equality in the bioeconomy sector. Being part of Analysys Mason’s efforts in these critical areas was incredibly rewarding, as I had the opportunity to contribute to meaningful change. Q: What skills have you developed or improved during your internship? Ida: I deepened my understanding of the tech and telecoms industries and their societal impact. Additionally, I significantly enhanced my technical skills in tools such as PowerPoint and Excel. Q: What have you enjoyed most about working with your colleagues? Ida: I have truly enjoyed the welcoming and supportive atmosphere among my colleagues. From day one, I felt included and valued, which greatly enriched my experience. Engaging in discussions with my colleagues further enhanced my learning journey. Q: What advice would you give to future interns? Ida: Embrace this opportunity for professional growth. Approach your tasks with confidence and don’t hesitate to ask for help!

While we're looking for our next year's interns, let us hear what our current interns – Kira, an IEM student from Aalto University, and Emma, a Politics & Communications student from University of Helsinki – have to say about their experience so far!   ❓ How did you end up applying for our internship, Kira? “My initial encounter with August was during a case course at Aalto University. The welcoming atmosphere at the office, the people, and the company's values resonated with me and motivated me to apply for the internship.”   ❓ What advice would you give to someone applying this fall, Emma? “Honestly, just be yourself and bring forward your unique qualities and experiences! You don't have to be a ready consultant when applying: for example, my unconventional academic background meant that I had no prior experience from case interviews. I decided to have fun and enjoy the experience, which I believe helped me loads. Having a "what is the worst thing that could happen" sort of attitude and braving the future will get you far!”   ❓ How was it like starting the internship, Kira? “It was exciting! What made it even easier was a three-day orientation at the beginning of the year, where all the interns got to meet each other and the August employees. When the first day of the internship arrived, it felt more like returning to a familiar place rather than starting something completely new!”   ❓ What have you got to do so far in your client project, Emma? “As an intern I've been a fully-fledged team member, which has meant working on similar tasks as my teammates. What I have found considerate is that my project manager has taken into account my academic background and skillset. This has enabled me to feel accomplished whilst continuously developing my skills further. So far, I have done qualitative research, data analysis and visualization, documentation of findings, and so forth – loads of different tasks, giving me a clear idea of what the varied work as a consultant looks like!”   The application period for our 2025 internships is open until September 25th. Today I gave twice a presentation about my internship-experience in Germany. I got to tell other students, who still have to do their internship, about my journey to and at Vodafone. For example, how I struggled with the new language in the beginning, but how getting out of my comfort zone helped me to get over my fear of speaking this foreign language. But also, that as an intern you’re there to learn, so that it’s not the end of the world when you don’t know everything. Being curious and eager to learn is in my eyes the key to an successful internship. I ended my talk with these tips: 1. Start searching early and don’t give up 2. Just do (fake it till you make it) 3. Be curious 4. Have a portfolio 5. Our experiences in Abu Dhabi, Slovakia, Budapest, and a few adventures through Romania were just the beginning of cultural and environmental explorations necessary for the soul and mind. Month by month, we continued to nourish our souls and minds with books and courses for personal and collective development, covering a diverse range of topics, followed by meetings and discussions on these themes from different personal perspectives. We never limited ourselves to just building, but also focused on how we do it and with whom. We have always sought to invest in initiatives that create authentic connections, grow together, and bring about the much-desired change. The events we organize are an important part of who we are, what we do, and how we contribute to everyone's growth. We are building not just a team, but a community. For us, work is passion, purpose. We want to offer those who join us a different vision of work – one that brings meaning and fulfillment to every action. We want to offer our collaborators innovative, remarkable products and long-lasting partnerships. Of course, everything we have described here would not have been possible without a team that believes in these nuances and adopts them of their own free will. Everything we do, we do for people – for the community. For the team we are and the team we will become. We are always guided by values such as trust, unity, resilience, excellence, and service. What to choose between an #internship in a company or an #Erasmus? 👩🎓 This is a question I have often asked myself. At EPHEC, we have the opportunity to choose one of the two for our 3rd year of study. But this choice is not always easy. Proof, I don't know what to choose. 💼 On one hand, there is the #internship. It's an opportunity for direct immersion in a company and the professional world. The internship would allow me to create a network of contacts in the field of activity that I like in #Belgium. Also, it would give me a good overview of my possible future career and allow me to discover a range of new knowledge. Finally, if this internship goes well, I could possibly obtain a contract or a position in the company that welcomed me. 🌍 On the other hand, there is #Erasmus. It's a completely different experience that also appeals to me a lot. I really enjoyed my #internationalweek in #Vietnam this year. It brought me a lot and why not repeat the experience? Going abroad to take courses in a completely different environment and discover another culture is also very exciting. This experience would also allow me, like the internship, to create a network of contacts but this time internationally. However, two aspects come into play: I would have to leave for a much longer period than during my first experience and this experience would take me out of my comfort zone. Knowing that I am someone who is very afraid of the unknown, this is an important criteria. So my choice is not yet made and I still have a long period of reflection ahead of me.
