BMPP Giving Circle is a great example of what collective giving can be! A decade of fueling community doers. https://lnkd.in/geeKt-3E In their own words... We started the giving circle in 2012 and gave our out first grants in 2013. We are Asian American families who have made the midwest our home from our humble beginnings as refugees, adoptees and immigrants. BMPP is our way of showing that generosity has always been a part of all of our cultures, even if American philanthropy is newer to some of us. As our founder, Bo Thao-Urabe said in her remarks, "While Giving circles are not the only answer to addressing the systemic inequities in funding to Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders, they are important because we help change the face of philanthropy, and we take risks to support our communities in ways that foundations often won’t." (If you're interested, see AAPIP's latest data on the underwhelming funding to AANHPIs in MN and beyond.) At BMPP, we make our application process accessible and easy. By doing so we've seen how our communities then boldly ask for funding to realize their ideas. We've funded emerging leaders and new projects. We've funded leaders who were not yet ready to establish nonprofits but they still wanted to implement a project. We're funding those who don’t know how to expertly craft a proposal but they can expertly talk about their projects. The impact has been tremendous; those doers have completed meaningful projects for young people, for elders, for farmers, for artists, for cities and so on. We built on our community’s strengths and assets because we believe when the doers in our community step up to solve community challenges we all win. Our role is to coalesce our resources to invest in them, so thank you for celebrating with us and celebrating them.

Tomorrow, on March 6th, the Batten Alumni Advisory Board will launch its “Spring Challenge” to fundraise money for the University of Virginia Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy's students whom pursue unpaid or underfunded internships in the public sector. This year, our goal is to raise $35,000 to support the Batten School’s future policy leaders. Your donation can: (1) Allow students to pursue internships that align with their passions in policy. (2) Alleviate any financial barriers that prevent today's student leaders from becoming tomorrow’s public servants. (3) Pay forward a metro swipe to work, a networking lunch, or a tank of gas to commute. As the Board's Philanthropy Co-Chair and also having experienced unpaid internships, I know these donations can very much be the margin of success for these students’ careers. The impact compounds far past just funding the internship, as that experience then leverages other opportunities down the road. Join us in raising money for the future policy leaders at the Batten School and help leave a lasting impact in these students careers by making your gift today! #GivingDay #UVA #Batten #PublicSector #Internships

We are back for another year of well-intentioned work on behalf of students, staff, and families! In-building, on-site school leadership is unique to most leadership positions in corporate, non-profit, and education spaces. The stakeholders and opinions are vast. It’s a pan with hot, hot oil and high stakes. →Hundreds (if not thousands) of students. →One to four guardian grown-ups per student. →On average, for every 20 students in a school there is 1 staff member—that’s a lot of staff! →Advisory and oversight committees: PTSA, PTA, CSC, PAC, SLT to name a few. →District leadership. →Community organizations. The pan is hot; always! If we are honest, it’s what draws us to the work. It probably draws you to your work. We love doing challenging, dynamic work with people we like and trust on behalf of children. Does that resonate with you? Let’s run it back!
