Heat is everywhere, and we use a narrow temperature range for living: 16-23°C (60.8-73.4°F) for air and 65°C (149°F) for hot water. In contrast, industries use a wide range: -160°C (-256°F) for LNG, 100-300°C (212-572°F) for food, textile, and chemical industries, and over 1,500°C (2,732°F) for metallurgy. This temperature spectrum presents an opportunity to couple industries with geothermal energy, providing a steady heat source for efficient, sustainable processes. Low-temperature geothermal resources are widely accessible but underutilized. To harness this potential, we must apply the same exploration, characterization, drilling, testing, validation, reiteration, system design, and financing as conventional geothermal power projects. Cascara recognizes this opportunity and is building an energy system that thermally couples urban centers with industry, using geothermal energy as the balancing force. By unlocking geothermal energy's vast potential, Cascara aims to advance sustainable energy transition and create a more efficient, resilient, and environmentally friendly energy infrastructure.o

✔ Check out the eighth "last pilot site" of the TRANSGEO Project. Together with the municipality of Ampfing, ONEO is planning to convert a currently shut-in hydrocarbon well into a geothermal well. Ampfing itself is located in the southern German molasse zone, which has proven to be a favourable area for geothermal energy production. An initial feasibility study, that was carried out in 2021 and showed that the geothermal potential exceeds the demand. To take full advantage of the geothermal potential, a second study has been commissioned in 2023, which also includes the gathering of detailed information on the heat demand of industry and private households. If a high degree of the heat plant capacity can be utilized the study will commence with a detailed planning of the future heat network and plant. Quote: he Netherlands knows a lot about its subsurface – and a government SCAN project is trying to fill in the gaps – there are also questions about geothermal energy that the Delft project hopes to solve. The first is the impact of the whole process, especially with the nervousness about earthquakes and seismic activity in the Netherlands with its experience in Groningen.

Enhanced Geothermal System 🌍 Harnessing the Earth's Heat: Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) 🌍 Did you know Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) can provide a sustainable, low-carbon energy solution? Unlike traditional geothermal systems that rely on natural hydrothermal resources, EGS creates geothermal reservoirs by injecting water into hot, dry rock formations. 🔍 Key Benefits: ▶ Broader Application: Can be implemented in areas without natural geothermal reservoirs. ▶ Lower Direct Emissions: Approximately 20-40 g CO2/kWh due to closed-loop systems. ▶ Potential for High Efficiency: Accesses heat stored in the Earth's crust almost anywhere. 🔍 Lifecycle Emissions: ▶ Construction: Higher due to extensive drilling and fracturing. ▶ Operational: Lower direct emissions with minimal maintenance emissions. ▶ Decommissioning: Similar to traditional systems with dismantling and site restoration emissions. 💡 Lifecycle Emissions Comparison: ▶ EGS: Approximately 52.8 g CO2/kWh ▶ Traditional Geothermal: Approximately 64 g CO2/kWh With technological advancements, EGS is paving the way for a more carbon-efficient energy future. 🌱🔋 #Sustainability #RenewableEnergy #GeothermalEnergy #EnhancedGeothermalSystems #LowCarbon #CleanEnergy #ClimateAction #GreenTechnology
