It was a fantastic day at the Element's 2nd Annual Golf Tournament! 🏌️
All skill levels were welcome, and our extended community of friends, family, and vendors came together for some friendly competition and community building. ⛳🤗
Even Goldie, our office mannequin, made an appearance on the first tee box in her new outfit for all to see and snap photos with.

Transforming Jefferson County: The Birth of FCSO's FAT to Fit Olympic Games
In 2011, the small yet determined community of Jefferson County, Mississippi, faced a startling revelation. A local news broadcast on WJTV Channel 12, coupled with an in-depth report from the Clarion Ledger Jackson newspaper, declared Jefferson County as "the fattest county in America." This eye-opening moment became the catalyst for a transformative journey led by the Fayette Community Service Organization (FCSO), spearheaded by Mr. Anthony Edwards and Mrs. Janell Westley-Edwards.
A Wake-Up Call and a Vision
The news struck a chord with the Edwards, who had recently attended the Global Obesity Summit in Jackson, MS. Inspired by the summit’s call to action and armed with a wealth of knowledge, they returned to Jefferson County with a renewed sense of purpose. They saw the health crisis in their community not as a deterrent but as an opportunity to ignite change and promote a culture of wellness.
Remarkable Achievements of the FAT to Fit Olympic Games
Over the years, FTFOG has achieved remarkable milestones:
- Conducted 15,883 free health screenings.
- Awarded 1,101 new bicycles.
- Distributed approximately $12,100 in cash prizes, health equipment, health gear, and apparel.
- Attracted participants from 13 Mississippi counties and six states nationwide.
- Engaged four local municipalities as official members of the FAT to Fit Family network, including Jefferson County Board of Supervisors and the City of Vicksburg.
**Expanding Horizons: Georgia 2024**
As FCSO prepares to host the FAT to Fit Olympic Games in Savannah, Georgia, this August, the spirit of community-driven health advocacy remains strong. Janell Westley-Edwards, a beloved health advocate from Savannah, has taken the lead, continuing the legacy of inspiring healthy living and community empowerment.
**A Call to Action**
FCSO invites community members, local businesses, and media outlets to join in this transformative journey. The FAT to Fit Olympic Games is more than an event; it is a movement towards a healthier, happier future for all. Together, we can combat childhood obesity and promote wellness in every corner of our communities.

If you live in San Antonio, please take this online survey on how to improve San Pedro Park or give your feedback starting at 9am at the park this Saturday. Thanks to Sukh Kaur, Ed.D. for helping organize! Here is what I’d love to see:
1) vendor / restaurant users to provide a great place to eat and have a drink while also providing “eyes on the park” that will make the park much safer and more attractive
2) a much longer pool season and a splash pad for kids, ideally near the vendor spaces
3) convert some of the tennis courts to pickle ball courts -- still need a lot of tennis courts for tournaments, but pickle ball would attract a lot of new park users and put even more "eyes on the park"
4) community concerts and theatre performances in the park
5) more shade trees

This team has been a faithful partner to Havenwood for a long time. They've supported our mission financially, as well as generously given of their skills, expertise, and time. They are true partners, generous in every sense of the word and we deeply appreciate their corporate culture.
We can learn some great lessons from corporations like Kendal King.
1. Communicate - knowing your charitable priorities for next year helps nonprofits be better stewards. Even if the news is disappointing to your nonprofit, the communication is a gift in itself.
2. Mutual advocacy- Helping your partner tell their story helps the partnership. Charities should have a basic understanding of your business and companies should understand the charities mission.
3. Transparency - The charity has the responsibility of being a partner the members of your company can be proud to support. We partner by celebrating the wins and sharing the disappointments.
Thank you Kendal King for being a huge part of empowering single mothers and their children to move from crisis to self-sufficiency. We are grateful.
We had a great time at the Havenwood Golf Tournament yesterday morning! It’s a privilege to be a sponsor for this event supporting such a worthy cause. ⛳ 🏌️
