Community Servings provides scratch-made, medically tailored meals to individuals and their families across Massachusetts who are living with severe critical and chronic illnesses such as HIV, cancer, diabetes, and kidney diseases. Their vision is to prioritize racial and economic justice and health equity. This year, Community Servings will provide more than 1.2 million meals to more than 5,000 critically ill individuals and their families. As part of its local foods initiative, Community Servings is committed to increasing access to healthy, local foods while also working to decrease food waste. They welcome an average of 600 volunteers per month to work in their kitchen, deliver meals, and help with fundraising efforts. We're thrilled to have recently provided another Farmers' Truck to empower a Massachusetts community with fresh, accessible food! The Salem Pantry mobile pantry program operates at 13 sites across Salem, bringing a large variety of food directly into the community. They collaborate closely with community partners, including Salem State University, The Salem Council on Aging, and The Salem Housing Authority. Their mobile market truck provides produce, protein, dairy, and non-perishable items to areas where pantry services are most needed. This allows families to conveniently receive the support they need! "The introduction of the Farmers' Truck, affectionately known as "The Truck," will significantly enhance the efficiency of food distribution and allow us to reach even more families," says Kia Fernandes, Marketing and Communications Coordinator at The Salem Pantry. Another successful mobile market in the books, so incredibly thankful for all of the volunteers and staff of Lynn Community Health Center who spend the first Saturday of each month packing up fresh produce for 500+ families in Lynn. Mobile Market is a true collaborative effort with the Phoenix Food Hub, Commonwealth Care Alliance, the Greater Boston Food Bank, and Lynn Community Health Center joining forces to close the gap of nutritious food equity and accessibility.
