The basic subtypes remain – pouch, prismatic and cylindrical – but within these are many variations available to suit different applications. The catalytic converter remains one of the most critical components in a vehicle as it plays the role of cleaning exhaust gases from your engine 🚗💨 What many people don't know is just how complex its manufacturing and assembly processes are. Watch as Yanesh Naidoo takes us inside the assembly of the three main components: 𝟭. 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗵 – cleans exhaust gases 𝟮. 𝗠𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗮𝘁 – securely supports the monolith in the stainless steel housing 𝟯. 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗖𝗮𝗻 – houses the assembly and protects the parts from physical damage There are two main drivers for this complexity: 𝗩𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘆  #OEMs are required to offer customers longer warranties, which means that all vehicle components should last at least as long as the warranty period. This has resulted in a more controlled, secure assembly process that requires complex machines. 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 This is the main, most expensive part of the catalytic converter. This inconsistency requires high-precision measuring machines to measure the shape of the monolith. At Jendamark, we also weigh the mat to determine the mat density. This information is then used to uniquely size the stainless steel. Until we find a real alternative energy source for our vehicles, catalytic converters will remain a vital part of the automotive industry's attempts to reduce air pollution and meet emissions norms.
