In celebration of Women's History Month, Aireon would like to honor the achievements of some of the great women at Aireon and ask them about their experience working in aviation, a primarily male-dominated industry. Janessa Vankauwenberg, Test Engineering Specialist at Aireon, had this advice to share with other women who are pursuing a career in aviation: "To any woman looking to break into the aviation industry, it's important to recognize both the challenges and the opportunities. Aviation has been a male dominated field, but this is changing. Personally, I didn't fully anticipate this upon entering the field, but in hindsight, the sooner you grasp this reality, the greater your potential impact. I believe the industry values diverse perspectives because it leads to smarter, safer, and more innovative ideas. Believe in the impact you make; your efforts may inspire others and the aviation world needs this now more than ever." In celebration of Women's History Month, Aireon would like to honor the achievements of some of the great women at Aireon and ask them about their experience working in aviation, a primarily male-dominated industry. Shivani Sharma, Network Engineering Manager at Aireon, had this advice to share with other women who are pursuing a career in aviation: "In such situations, it’s crucial to evaluate your skills and achievements based on your own standards, not on the perceptions of others. You don’t need to constantly prove yourself to anyone else; instead, focus on proving it to yourself. Surround yourself with a working environment that respects and values you as an equal. It’s vital to seek out a workplace where you are treated with respect and equality, fostering an atmosphere where your potential can truly flourish without unnecessary barriers. Remember, once you find such an environment, the sky is not the limit – it’s just the beginning of what you can achieve!" WOMEN LEADING AVIATION & TRANSPORTATION Women have been the force behind some of the most groundbreaking innovations. They’ve reshaped industries, defied expectations, and led the way toward a more inclusive and sustainable future. Here’s how these pioneering women leaders have inspired progress in the aviation and transportation sectors: - Amelia Earhart: The first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic. Amelia inspired generations of women to pursue their dreams in aviation. - Bessie Coleman: The first African-American woman pilot. Known for her aerial acrobatics, Bessie broke down racial barriers and paved the way for others in aviation. - Jacqueline Cochran: The first woman to break the sound barrier and founder of WASP (Women Airforce Service Pilots), showing that women belong in every aspect of aviation. - Anne Morrow Lindbergh: The first licensed female glider pilot in the U.S. and author, connecting the world to the beauty of aviation through her writings. - Yolanda Kakabadse: Former Minister of Environment in Ecuador, advocating for integrating sustainability in transportation policies globally. - Mary Barra: CEO of General Motors, leading the charge for electric vehicles and diversity in the automotive industry. These extraordinary women are not just icons; they represent the powerful role that women continue to play in shaping the future of aviation, transportation, and sustainability. Let’s celebrate their achievements and raise awareness of how they’ve opened doors for the next generation of women leaders in STEM. #WomenInAviation #WomenInTech #Innovation #Sustainability #Leadership #WomenInSTEM

Yesterday some HCUK colleagues attended the Automotive 30% Club annual conference. The club was founded by Julia Muir with the purpose of achieving a better gender balance within the automotive industry, and the aim of filling at least 30% of key leadership positions in the member organisations with women by 2030. It was a truly inspirational and thought-provoking day, with a variety of fantastic speakers including some industry experts, Elliot Rae founder of MusicFootballFatherhood and Jo Salter the first female RAF Fast Jet Pilot. We learnt so much about the automotive industry – from some worrying statistics (the increased likelihood of death/serious accidents if you are a female driver), the potential impact of AI – not just on the automotive industry and the strategies that many organisations in the sector are implementing in order to achieve increased female representation. There were a lot of take aways for us to think about and work on at HCUK. Some of the things that Jo Salter spoke about were particularly thought provoking including these words ‘how can you be what you can’t see’ and referring to her early days of being a pilot ‘it doesn’t matter that I am a good pilot, they are not ready for me to do this.’ We need to create the work environments where everyone can become the best version of who they are or want to be, and provide good role models and sponsorship to those who show they have potential and aspirations to achieve. #automotive30 #diversity #inclusion #bethebestversion

The world of motoring is not as inclusive as everyone likes to think. There are still challenges. However, that is where Supercarbaldie Selene comes in. It is the first and only all-inclusive platform for women. The mission should you wish to accept it is to transform the motoring world, so that all women feel comfortable, welcome and equal. There is no reason why motoring clubs need to be aimed towards the HNW only and supercars first for example. No need for influencers to be flashing their car collections and fashion shoots. The world of motoring is a world for all, and the authentic side of motoring needs to be seen. Money does not shape the industry, people do... So, for all you ladies out there that have a love for cars, bikes, or karting maybe, this might just be what you've been looking for. This is a place you can possibly run anything from a Nissan Sunny to a Ferrari on track, a place to understand road safety, handling. Meet-ups over coffee, workshops and so much more. You can find a little more info online at: https://lnkd.in/dvdz5Zic you will find free registration for the next 6 months You can follow the new Instagram at : https://lnkd.in/dwqua6yZ Even follow my regular Instagram at : https://lnkd.in/dkTb9MJi Find inspiration also on Youtube at : https://lnkd.in/dWQXyPVy And you can join the first Empowerment Starts with Coffee! Today we’re celebrating both International Women's Day 2024 and Women in Aviation Week! It’s a chance to celebrate our female colleagues and women within the aviation industry from pilots to first officers, cabin crew to ground staff, maintenance engineers and the many other valuable roles that make up our industry. Whilst female pilots are on the rise across the globe, they’re still an incredibly small number in comparison to the male population. Studies show that the main deterrents for young girls and women considering careers in aviation are a lack of mentorship, visibility of role models, associated costs, and exclusionary policies, amongst other factors. At Symbiotics, we’re proud to have a team of fantastic women who are helping to lead the way in providing assessment and selection, training and consultancy services in over 130 locations worldwide. We're also proud members of Women in Aviation International. Today, let’s continue to #flyitforward across borders to remember the past, celebrate the present and shape the future of the aviation industry. #iwoaw #womenofavitionweek #woaw24 #inspireinclusion

🌟 Celebrating International Women’s Day in Aviation! 🛫 My daughter has begun asking hundreds of questions every day, 🫡🫡🫡 many of them about my job, what I do, how I assist pilots, and whether she can also become a pilot or a “psychologist for pilots” one day. 👩🏼✈️👩🏼🏫✈️ I always respond with an enthusiastic “absolutely!” However, I recognise that for many women, it is not so obvious to consider working in this field. 🤷🏼♀️ This realization fills me with immense pride as a #womaninaviation industry. On this International Women’s Day, I want to highlight the incredible contributions of women who propel the advancement of aviation daily.🏆 Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing the remarkable achievements of women in aviation. From #pilots shattering barriers in the cockpit to #engineers crafting innovative aircraft, women have been at the forefront of driving progress and innovation in the industry. As a woman in aviation myself, I’ve experienced firsthand the challenges and opportunities that accompany being a minority in a male-dominated field. Yet, I’ve also witnessed the unwavering support and camaraderie among female colleagues, who inspire and empower each other to soar to new heights. Today, let’s applaud the accomplishments of women in aviation and persist in advocating for #genderequality in the industry (that means that if you have right competencies and traits -suitable for the role -you can start doing it, regardless the gender!). Together, we can cultivate a more inclusive and diverse aviation sector for future generations of women to thrive in—one that I hope my daughter will be proud of. Happy International Women’s Day!🌷🌷 #WomenInAviation #IWD2024 #GenderEquality #AviationDiversity
