We're thrilled to share in just two weeks, on 19 July, we will be hosting the students of the Social Mobility Business Partnership Work Insight & Skills Experience (WISE) programme at our Newcastle office. SMBP is a volunteer-led charity comprising over 200 commercial organisations, professional services firms, and professional sports teams across the UK. Their mission is to support students from low-income backgrounds in pursuing careers in business. Since 2014, SMBP has expanded from assisting 20 students in London to coordinating over 3,000 student days across the UK in 2023 through their award-winning WISE programme. This marks our sixth year of supporting SMBP's incredible initiative, and we are excited to contribute to the students' learning and development. #SMBP #SMBPWISE2024 #socialmobilitybusinesspartnership #futureleaders #futuretalent #legalcareers

A national charity that helps young people develop their business, financial and entrepreneurial skills has entered the Skills For The Future category of the Staffordshire University Business Awards (sponsored by Stoke on Trent College). Young Enterprise UK works directly with young people, teachers, parents, businesses and influencers to offer financial and enterprise education. It works with around 57% of secondary schools in 30% of the most deprived areas of England and Wales and has a strong presence in Staffordshire. Teresa Fisher CertHRCertRP, Young Enterprise Educational Partnership Manager for Staffordshire, said: “We believe that the potential of the UK’s young people is unlimited and an academic education on its own is not enough. “As a national charity very active in Staffordshire we motivate young people to succeed in the changing world of work by equipping them with the work skills, knowledge and confidence they need.” Young Enterprise’s financial education is a planned programme of study that equips young people with the knowledge, skills and confidence to manage their money. Its enterprise education provides young people with the skills, competencies and mindset to make the most of everyday opportunities and challenges. Teresa added: “Through our hands-on employability, enterprise and financial education programmes, resources and teacher training we aim to reduce youth unemployment, help young people realise their potential beyond education and empower a generation to learn, to work and to live.” #SUBA2024 #proudtobestaffs

Learning and Development is vital to support staff to be the best they can be, and to avoid them feeling undervalued. However, when times are tight, learning and development can seem like a luxury. As a canny Scottish fundraiser, I'm always looking for funded opportunities. Funded microcredential courses such as these are spot on. Check them out 👉 https://lnkd.in/eRhTuj-2 There's even a course aimed at third sector leaders! #SmallCharityCEO #LearningAndDevelopment #Microcredentials

What is the Power of a SMART Target Goal? How students can apply this Life Skill at school, at Uni or in their personal life? This is an example: 🏆 What is my GOAL? I want to be able to run for a further distance ➡ How to make it Specific: I want to be able to run 5km without stopping in under 30 minutes ➡ How to create it Measurable: I will run on a measured running track or record the distance with an app to ensure it is 5km ➡ Convert it into an Achievable Goal: I can already run short distances of about 3km at a moderate pace, so 5km isn’t too much more ➡ Turn it into a Result-focused: I will gradually build up my distance by 500m per week ➡Schedule it Time-bound: I will achieve this within one month That is a SMART GOAL! As #Barclays #Local #Specialist for #Didcot and #Oxfordshire I will be bringing #LifeSkills to schools, universities, charities and other community organisations who would like to have access to this fantastic educational lesson and other practical, enthusiastic modules. You are more than welcome to message me for more information at Viviana.Salmon@barclays.com https://lnkd.in/dQvSa-NJ

I would be interested in working for a #Charity but this article does make for worrying reading....would anyone like to prove me wrong? #lookingfornewopportunities The current overall institutional make-up of #charities in the UK is overwhelmingly white and middle-class. Currently, only 9% of charity employees and 6% of CEOs are from Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) groups (NCVO, 2018; ACEVO, 2019). These figures are problematically low when you take into account that 14% of the overall UK population are BAME, and in London and other major cities (where most charities are located), this percentage rises to 40% (GOV.UK, 2014; Charityjob,2018). Having recently finished being a mentor with MCR Pathways for a young person at Portlethen Academy, I am nervous to hear that Aberdeenshire Council is reviewing whether funding should continue to support this amazing charity. I also see that there are pleas to Glasgow City and Highland Councils on the same topic. It's not for me to say how important this is, however the relationships and connections it creates, the potential in the young person it helps realise and the support & guidance it offers to the mentee cannot be underestimated. The impact it can have (you can have!) is life changing! In a time when we should be investing in the foundations and infrastructure that will allow our young people to thrive and grow, we seem to be moving in the opposite direction. Glasgow City Council has also announced plans to cut teacher jobs by 450! This simply means less classroom support, higher workload, bigger classroom numbers, higher diverse learning needs in larger groups and less teacher time - all which leads to frustration and stress to both pupil & teacher. If you live in a council that supports MCR Pathways - if you can - please be curious to how you can help. The return is extremely fulfilling. Let's hope all councils continue to back this. https://lnkd.in/eeuvmuYF

Are you an employer that hosts apprenticeship programs for your company? ❔Did you know... The minimum wage for apprentices can have a direct impact on the social welfare that apprentices can access. If the minimum wage is set too low, it may mean that more apprentices need to rely on government benefits to make ends meet, such as Universal Credit. This can have negative consequences for both the individual apprentice and the wider social welfare system. 💁🏽 How can you help? By joining the Apprentice Decent Wage (ADW) Pledge Employers are invited to sign up to say that they #BackTheFuture by signing the Apprentice Decent Wage Pledge to enable better social mobility and fair wages for all As we move into the final days of #NAW2024 there's never been a better time to sign-up, to make a change for your current and future apprentices, but also be a leader in the charge to remove barriers to entry for those from low socio-economic backgrounds ensuring more apprentice candidates with increased completion rates for all sectors. Together, let's Back the Future ✨ 📋 https://lnkd.in/duB57yJS #NationalApprenticeshipWeek2024 #ADWP #BackTheFuture #Apprenticeships #SkillsForLife #PledgeToday
