I've been looking for something like this. ElevenLabs Reader App allows you to listen to any book, article, or document in high-quality AI voices, enhancing accessibility and convenience. Multi-language support coming out soon. Looking ahead, I predict that by next year, such capabilities will be integrated directly into operating systems, eliminating the need for third-party apps. This is a great example of 'thin value' applications being out competed from the providers of the foundational technology. I came across Lets Recast (https://www.letsrecast.ai/) sometime last year and have been using this use case in the Practical AI for Devs course as it's such an easy technical challenge. Take text, maybe do some summarisation on scripting transformations and then use a text to speech engine to turn it into something someone can listen to on the go. It also has interesting ethical questions about fair use - scrape a news site or six and summarise the content so a user doesn't have to go and read them or their ads. Easy to build with a small amount of programming skill and definitely not enough to build a company around. ElevenLabs is one of the more popular applications for text to speech so here they are launching an app which does just that. I doubt it will have long term legs as the general purpose AIs make this easy (Hey Siri, read this book to me etc.). I'm especially interested in how ElevenLabs fairs through the AI winter, trying to build up a consumer user base for a pure AI company while offering an api for others to build on top of will be a challenging strategy to land. channel to a large user base > foundational tech > AI wrappers.
