🚫 Top 5 Misconceptions About Chemical Engineering (Let’s Set the Record Straight!) 🚫 As a chemical engineer, I often encounter misconceptions about our field. Today I’m taking time to debunk some of the myths about chemical engineering. Interestingly, even some engineers in some other fields are still confused about what we are about. 1. “Chemical Engineers Just Play with Chemicals” Reality Check: We’re not just mixing substances! Chemical engineers design and optimize processes to create everything from life-saving medicines to sustainable fuels. We’re transforming innovative ideas into real-world solutions! 2. “It’s a Boys’ Club” Reality Check: While the field has historically been male-dominated, I can proudly say that diversity is growing! Women now represent a significant percentage of chemical engineers, bringing fresh perspectives and creativity to our work. My class for instance has about 40% females 3. “Chemical Engineers Only Work in Oil and Gas” Reality Check: Not true! Our expertise spans various industries, including pharmaceuticals, food production, and renewable energy. We’re the innovators behind many products that improve everyday life! 4. “Chemical Engineers Are Just Scientists in Lab Coats” Reality Check: We’re much more than that! As chemical engineers, we blend science with business skills, ensuring that processes are not only effective but also economically viable. 5. ”Chemical engineering is all about chemistry” Reality check: Absolutely wrong! While chemistry is a part of the body of knowledge we obtain as chemical engineers, it only forms about 5-10 % of the entire space. Don’t choose chemical engineering just because you love chemistry, you may not survive! Mention any other interesting myths you’ve heard about chemical engineering and let’s talk about it😂 #Linkedin #chemicalengineering #engineering #oilandgas #renewableenergy

I recently had the opportunity to work with Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), where I explored various specialist groups, including pharmaceuticals, fluid separation, food, and renewable energy. This experience opened my eyes to the pivotal role chemical engineers play in promoting sustainable practices across industries. One of the highlights was designing a large-scale renewable energy product plan. This project not only enhanced my technical skills but also reinforced the importance of creative thinking and problem-solving in engineering solutions. Through my interactions with industry experts, I gained valuable insights into the activities and challenges faced by these special interest groups. I learned about the significance of soft skills, such as effective communication and teamwork, which are essential for successful collaboration. I also honed my digital skills, vital in today's tech-driven landscape, and recognized that employability hinges on a blend of hard and soft skills. This experience has truly deepened my commitment to making a positive impact in the field of chemical engineering! #ChemicalEngineering #Sustainability #RenewableEnergy #ProfessionalDevelopment
