Join us today in congratulating the ten winners and four runners-up of this year’s Ben Barres Spotlight Awards! 🎉 Now in its sixth year, this annual award scheme has recognised pioneering researchers from groups that are traditionally underrepresented in biology and medicine, as well as those working in countries with limited research funding, since 2019. This year’s winners represent the scheme’s most geographically diverse cohort, working across 13 countries between them and over half of the eligible applications received were based on articles initially published as reviewed preprints. Congratulations Ayesha Riaz, Germana Bancone, Joaquin Gonzalez, Maarouf Baghdadi, Nsoh Anabire, Oseremen Aisuodionoe-Shadrach, Ren Ujimatsu, Sayanti Acharya, Valerie Tornini and Victoire Nsabatien, and runners-up Evelyn Aviles, Jose Duhart, Kevin Alen Rucci and Natalia Ferreira Mendes. Named in honour of trailblazing transgender researcher and former eLife editor, the Ben Barres Spotlight Awards help us foster a more equitable and inclusive culture for research.
