I am more than happy to announce that my new research article entitled “The Utility of Syndecan-1 Circulating Levels as a Biomarker in Patients with Previous or Active COVID-19: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis” just published in BMC Infectious Diseases (IF: 3.7, BIOMED CENTRAL LIMITED) Link: https://lnkd.in/e_WEvrhX In this meta-analysis, we found that circulating syndecan-1 level can be used as a biomarker of endothelial dysfunction in COVID-19, as it was increased in COVID-19 patients and was higher in more severe instances of the disease. Further larger studies are needed to confirm these findings and further enlighten the role of syndecan-1 in clinical settings. I am delighted to announce that our new article has just been published in disease markers (Hindawi Publishing ). Entitled: “Insights into the Role of Galectin-3 as a Diagnostic and Prognostic Biomarker of Atrial Fibrillation”. Atrial fibrillation is known as the most common cardiac arrhythmia that it’s early diagnosis could save patients from several morbidities and mortality. Galectin-3 is a pro-fibrotic and inflammatory protein which several studies have shown it’s controversial association with atrial fibrillation diagnosis and prognosis. In this review article we investigated the possible role of galectin-3 in atrial fibrillation prognosis,recurrence and also diagnosis, and we are looking forward to the use of this biomarker in the clinical and therapeutic course of patients. I am more than happy to announce that my first paper was published at the Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism - Wiley “The interplay between vitamin C and thyroid" Link: https://lnkd.in/eBg_UWW4 We found anti-cancer effects for IV administration of vitamin C in addition to the beneficial effects of using it in combination with radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Moreover, some studies reported a significant difference in blood vitamin C levels in patients with autoimmune thyroid diseases such as Graves' disease. Despite many studies evaluating the effects of IV administration of vitamin C in mentioned diseases, there is a lack of evidence for oral consumption of vitamin C. UBC is home to 48 top 100 subjects, the 2nd highest number in Canada. UBC's best performance is in Sports-related Subjects, in which it ranks 3rd globally and 1st in Canada.
