Traveloka was honored to participate again at this year’s Milken Global Conference in Los Angeles, themed “Shaping a Shared Future.” In a discussion on Asia’s opportunity landscape moderated by Diane Brady, the audience Binny Bansal, David Lee, Samuel Rhee, Brian Rogove, Songyee Y., and Caesar Indra were energized by the immense potential in our region and the ability to scale and share solutions across companies and sectors for a brighter tomorrow. During the discussion sessions, Caesar shared his insightful thoughts on various topics, including travel trends in Southeast Asia and the role of gaming in AI development. Here are some highlights from the discussion: 1. AI and machine learning will impact our world in ways we cannot imagine – from creating positive socioeconomic impact including through job creation, to unprecedented advances in healthcare and financial services. We have to embrace this responsibly and are excited for its potential. 2. For businesses to succeed, localization is key. A deep understanding of each country in our region is essential to success – and having the ability to leverage technology to transform challenges into opportunities. The best founders will find the hardest problems and solve them, localizing solutions because there is simply no one size fits all in Southeast Asia. Success necessitates localization at scale – and technologies such as machine learning and AI will be at the heart of this. 3. Asia’s investment landscape remains a bright spot despite global macroeconomic headwinds. From India to Southeast Asia, our entrepreneurial ecosystems are developing very quickly – thanks to growing economies, the availability of talent, young populations, a culture of innovation, and supportive regulatory environments. You can watch the full session here: https://lnkd.in/gyRPEZny.

Professor of Ethics and Technology; Founding member of the Hertie School Centre for Digital Governance
I learnt a lot about the state of German and French AI from Anne Bouverot's meeting. It was interesting to contrast it with one between essentially the US and Italy hosted by ASPEN ITALIA SOCIETA A RESPONSABILITA LIMITATA the next day in Rome, and then speaking to Jakob Mökander of the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change about the UK last night. We're at a very critical juncture now where those who don't invest in generative AI may well be rapidly outperformed by those who do. But many of those who digitalise naively are exposing themselves to being taken down entirely by cyberwar events or even just crime or incompetence. We need to use digital tools to move forwards where we can, but always remember we cannot rely on AI or even electricity being always available during a period of conflicts and crises. There must always be core non-digital capacities for critical systems, and there should be resilience through employing multiple providers wherever possible, though again note doing THAT in an ad hoc way can compromise cybersecurity. I'd very much like to see some of the governments of the EU deploying full digital sovereignty, and the other governments split more or less evenly between multiple transnational utility providers, so if one gets taken out, the others might be able to supply computing resource just as we do electricity. Finally, it is high time that we find a way to govern transnational essential infrastructure even if it derives from initially private management (often underwritten through massive government investment.) Here I am thinking not only of Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Cisco, Nvidia, and Twitter, but also SpaceX. #digitalGovernance #AIGovernance #AIEthics #generativeAI #genAI
