Empowering Early to Mid-Level Practitioners with "Elevate 2 Mastery" Last year, I had insightful discussions with law school deans and employer firms and organisations about the skill gaps in law graduates. These findings align with the 2022 Job Readiness Report which was released by QLS late last year. The report highlights the missing skills of: ⭐ critical thinking, ⭐ interpersonal communication, ⭐ ethical practice, ⭐ problem-solving, ⭐ emotional intelligence, ⭐ leadership, and ⭐ technological proficiency. The report also notes that Career Builders find entry-level lawyers often lack practical skills, have unrealistic expectations, and need ongoing training and mentoring. They identify deficiencies in : ⭐ problem-solving, ⭐ communication, ⭐ legal analysis, ⭐ work management, ⭐ business, ⭐ technological skills, and ⭐ self-management. Early to mid-level practitioners often lack opportunities for development in these crucial areas, impacting their career progression and engagement. Inspired by this research, we developed the "Elevate 2 Mastery" masterclass program. This program equips early to mid-level practitioners – lawyers, in-house counsel, and barristers – with the fundamental learnings, and essential skills and insights needed for their professional growth. Do you debrief with someone after every session you facilitate? This is one of the ways we uphold Excellence, one of our values at BCB Learning Inc. For example, last week Anna and I co-facilitated a meeting of the Washington DC Liberating Structures User Group and yesterday, we met - with Jason on our team as well, who had been a participant in the meeting - to debrief. We talked about what happened that we didn't anticipate, what worked, and what we would/wouldn't do again. We talked about technology and we talked about working with different kinds of groups and how that might make a difference to what we did and would do in the future. We made time and space in our schedules to carry out this debrief, even though this was a free facilitation that we offered to the Washington group and no one was paying us to prep for, hold, or debrief after the event. We know that we always can increase our skills when talking with each other about how things went – no matter if the facilitation opportunity is paid or not. I'd love to hear how (or if) you make space to debrief the paid or unpaid workshops you facilitate. How do you make this part of your own excellence in facilitation?

As a part of The GC Index experience Summer completed her GC Index Impact Profile and she is a Play Maker Polisher. Summer said: "The Play Maker proclivity helped me make sense of why I thrive when I am helping others navigate complexity in their collaborative efforts. Even when I'm particularly skilled at the work, I am much more energized through mobilizing others than by being the 'doer' of the work." So what does this mean for the future for Summer? "It has helped me to be more purposeful in how I set up client engagements. I know that to be at my best, I need to build collaboration into my engagements and set shared expectations with others around how we will work together and experiences we will co-create. This will help me lean into the Play Maker and Polisher proclivities more intentionally." I’ve just finished two days at one of Paul Avins‘ scale up business workshops (have a look if you want a really amazing business coach and to be amongst inspiring people!). We had to introduce ourselves and the organisations we lead. I was dreading it (public speaking…..!). When I was up there it came easily. I talked about the recent growth of the group and our exciting plans for the year ahead (also the challenges of being in the international educational travel sector during the Covid pandemic!). It made me think carefully about what we’re building, and what we think makes us really BRILLIANT to work with. At UKLC last year the team came up with an updated set of our company values (the other businesses in the group will do the same soon!). They aren’t just words on a page (or the walls, yet); they shape how we support our students, engage with our partners, and grow as a team. ✅ We care – about our students, our team, and the experiences we create. ✅ We build and maintain trust – essential in everything we do. ✅ We make a difference – in the lives of young people through life-changing study travel. ✅ We create fun, life-enhancing experiences – because learning should be memorable. ✅ We are living leaders – constantly evolving and inspiring growth. ✅ We actively encourage growth – for our students, our team, and our business. It was useful to pause and reflect on these today and how they drive our success.
