Her approach—'You agreed to X, you didn’t deliver, were you lying or can you fix it going forward?'—is a masterclass in direct, solution-oriented communication. As project managers, we often face similar moments where trust and transparency are key to moving forward. Leadership isn’t about avoiding conflict; it’s about navigating it with integrity.

This is leadership! Leadership allows space for those who have made mistakes to correct them. You don't have to be big and loud and harsh, you have to be sincere, and consistent. The refs (managers) who can't control a game are the refs with lack of leadership. They get loud, make inconsistent calls, get defensive and take it personal. Those are the games where it gets out of control and players get hurt. Start on the right foot with a pregame agreement, follow it up with a reminder, and then calmly and consistently make your calls, while continuously reminding the teams of the agreements and goals for the match! Sports ball can teach us valuable lessons if we take the time to pay attention.

Accountability is so powerful. Harness it. It makes every team better.

Erling Haaland of course. A chance for the hat-trick. POSSIBLE PENALTY… Surely, that should be a penalty? Erling Haaland is through on goal and Nelson SEmedo is snapping at his heels. Just as Haaland is about to pull the trigger, Semedo takes him out from behind, but the referee says no. Oh, hang on, the referee has been sent to the monitor… Man City 2-0 Wolves This is just too easy for Manchester City. It feels like a training session, City are just knocking it around the park. They aren’t breaking a sweat. It doesn’t feel like the high-pressure match that it is. Man City 2-0 Wolves Manuel Akanji has gone down, but I think he is going to be ok. It gives me a chance to watch that goal again and see just how high Erling Haaland leaped to head home. The only two people I can think of who can jump like that are Cristiano Ronaldo and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. GOAL!!! Man City 2-0 Wolves (Haaland 35′) Wolves are the masters of their own downfall. Rodri wins the ball high up the pitch after two Wolves players collide. He combines with Kevin de Buryne before floating a ball to the back post for Erling Haaland to head home. Premier League I can’t get over how high Haaland just leaped. Any higher and he would have jumped out of the stadium. Incredibly impressive. Arsenal fans, I think this one may be over. Man City 1-0 Wolves Joao Gomes, you silly boy. The Wolves midfielder wipes out Mateo Kovacic to give Manchester City a set-piece in a very dangerous position. Luckily for Gomes, Sa is fouled as the ball is sent in, so the free-kick comes to nothing. You can’t be making challenges like that though against City. When you witness an exchange where both men and women are at their best, you realise these behaviors can be modeled, showcased, and emulated across countries and issues. What stands out in this brief interaction is the respect, regard, recognition, and valuing of each other, all delivered with calmness. This is in stark contrast to the tirades often seen from referees. There is always a better way. I feel proud seeing female leaders demonstrating how it is done. There is so much dignity in respect. Creating a culture of regard between referees and players requires effort and buy-in from everyone, from the top down. But isn’t it worth striving for, this level of emotional intelligence? 🎥 Challenging Myself: Speed Filmmaking in Sheffield 🎥 Today, I set myself a challenge: how fast could I produce a complete video from start to finish? Starting at 15:30, I hit the streets of Sheffield, running around the city to capture as many shots as I could before the light faded. Time was tight, and I was racing against both the sunset and the clock to get the footage I needed. Filming wrapped up at 19:30, just 15 minutes before kickoff. My original goal was to finish the edit by kickoff, but I needed a bit more time. By halftime, I had a fully completed video and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. This challenge was about pushing my limits: working under pressure, adapting quickly, and making the most of the time and light available. Running through Sheffield reminded me how much energy and creativity filmmaking brings out in me.
