Adapt them to your project's specific goals. Targets were derived from the NCC, the IECC, U.S. UFC, ATTMA UK, and consultation with most ATTMA Level 2 testers in Australia. This stuff is achievable. We give real project case studies with key strategies that project teams used to meet their goals. Make sure your project teams submit their results to ATTMA Lodgement. The offshore oil and gas industry should listen to Capt Anthony Patterson of Virtual Marine when it comes to the safety training and competence of lifeboat coxswains globally!! I don't mind saying, that (conventional) lifeboat coxswain training methodology via lifeboat in water, does not reflect the offshore industry's needs or environment, so why is this type of training still acceptable? The conventional training is simply not good enough now, or relative to what offshore lifeboat coxswains can expect during an offshore emergency evacuation via their Life-Saving Appliances. That is a fact! There are better training methods available and for non-seafarers to be given such a responsibility to launch and operate a life-saving appliance and be responsible for the safety of all onboard, then the best training methodology, tools, and technology should be the primary training given and not a minimum training standard, especially for those learners who are not seafarers!! The IMO has changed the Model Course 1.23 Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats Other Than Fast Rescue Boats by accepting simulation for Initial Lifeboat Coxswain training. The Offshore Industry Training Standards should follow the IMO lead and allow the (initial lifeboat Coxswains) to be carried out via simulators. The benefits of simulator training far outweigh that of conventional training. Can the learners experience launching at night during conventional training? No Can the learners experience launching in Adverse weather conditions? No Can the learners experience boat handling in high-sea states? No Can all of the above be experienced via a simulator? Yes Do learners practice radio communications during conventual training? No Do learners get the opportunity to launch multiple times? No Do learners get to see the real benefits of pyrotechnics? No Do learners get the opportunity to experience realistic emergency evacuation scenarios? No Do the learners experience all the above via a simulator? Yes Is training via a simulator safer? Yes Is a simulator a greener training methodology than conventional training? Yes Is a simulator more realistic to the offshore environment? Yes Is a simulator more of an immersive experience than conventional training? Yes Do the simulators meet all the performance criteria required by the industry minimum training standards? They supersede the requirements!! Training via simulators is more relevant to the environment the learners work in, compared to training in a boat in calm waters that is not realistic or conducive to the environment that can be expected in an offshore environment during an emergency evacuation incident. #opito #offshoresafety #trainingcompetence #IMO #STCW #lifeboatcoxswains
