India is a Trust-deficient country! Then how has the Tata Group managed to retain consumer trust for 120+ years? Fundamentally, Tatas were not of Indian origin. Hence the theory of Indians liking Indian hero stories does not hold true. Tata group also has an influencing power over the media and government, like the Ambani and Adani conglomerates of the world. Hence the theory of Indians disliking companies in power does not hold true. Still, Indian consumers tend to organically trust brands associated to the TATA group, irrespective of the industry (the likes of Zudio, Croma, Titan Company Limited, etc.). Why? There are some fundamental values and strategies which have led to this Indian consumer behavior. 1. Predictability and Consistency, not in being the best but being predictable in what consumers expect from you. It does not matter what is the standard that you are delivering, as long as it is predictable. People then align themselves to that expectation and this sets the benchmark in their minds. TATAs have delivered on the expectations consistently for 120+ years. People thereby feel that this cannot be pretentious, this is who they are. Hence the trust! 2. All their communications revolve around the nation, not themselves. For salt, its 'Desh ka Namak', for tea, its 'Poore Desh ko jagana hai', for steel, its 'Poore Desh ko banana hai'. The messaging always indicates that they are not doing a business for personal gains, but for building the nation. They do this consistently, and hence the trust! 3. Indians respect people possessing wealth, but as soon as the wealth is showed-off, the respect is lost to some extent. For instance, cases like Vijay Mallya and the Jamnagar event by the Ambani family largely come across as a flashy, unnecessary display of wealth. This does not fit in culturally with us. TATAs have never displayed their wealth publicly. They have always come across as simple people, in all their PR events. (Ratan TATA is fond of planes, but we'll never see him flying one.) 4. Maximum trust is built when you make a mistake and you own up to it, before people point it to you. TATAs have done this commendably well. For instance, their factory union problems. Also, TATAs have been credited to bring the concept of 40-hour work week as a concept in the world, in 1908. They came up with this concept of fixed schedule of work, pension, health insurance, when they realized their productivity was dropping. They owned up to their mistake of unstructured employee benefits and acted proactively on it. There is no quick way in the journey of building trust for anyone. The focus on being consistent and predictable over and over again, is the key for all genres of businesses, brands and content creators! #buildingtrust #brandbuilding #growthmindset #userfirst #consumerbehavior #indianconsumer

Time to express gratitude for the incredible experiences and achievements in 2023! It’s been a year of remarkable growth, elevating my real estate business in Chennai and Dubai, establishing a thriving international event business, and stabilizing my IT and digital marketing ventures! Just like during tough times, these are my key takeaways from the great times! Gratitude - I’m thankful to the many wonderful souls—family, friends, brothers, partners, clients, and my amazing team—who have supported me in various ways. A special mention to Badsha bhai, Vivek, Eshvar, Annamalai, Karthik, Maddy, Ranjan, and my unnamed angels! Delayed Gratification - I’ve learned this lesson, although a bit late! It’s the factor that distinguishes between something good and something truly great. Acceptance - Dealing with people and life situations! For a long time, I struggled to find peace when I lacked answers to questions or faced unexpected actions from clients or loved ones. Acceptance is a powerful virtue that promotes understanding, resilience, and peace of mind. Embracing situations and people as they are, without judgment or resistance, fosters personal growth, deeper connections, and easier navigation through life’s complexities. With these lessons and many more, 2023 has been a blessing. Looking ahead to 2024 with anticipation, aiming onward and upward! ✨ #skyhighventures #jerrytalks #lifelessons

I recollect my friend Atul Gandotra had lamanted about how very few options are available in india for people retiring from important corporate jobs at the age of 60. Overnight in many cases the person becomes a nonentity. Thankfully I and some very small number of persons I know remained gainfully busy for close to 20 to 23 years after retirement. But not all were as lucky.Personally speaking my best came after I crossed 70 listed below are the leaders who control most of the world.Their ages? 1)70 + 8 countries 2)80 + 9 countries 3)90. + 1 country Is it not a foolish idea not to use the talent pool available of Senior management experts? when one can manage a country certainly expert seniors can be a great asset? think hard!!

Founder of Everpure | Vedique Nutrition | Masters in International Business | Ex-Citigroup, Samsung, Hewlett Packard, Rocket Internet | JNU | Posco Asia fellow|
Recently, I had the pleasure of reuniting with my childhood friend Megha More after 25 years in Bangalore. It was a heartwarming experience to see her again, and I was thrilled to learn about her successful health-focused venture, Possible.in. When Megha invited me for lunch, I joked about avoiding "diet food," and we decided to eat out. But when we returned, her mother-in-law surprised me with some delicious homemade ladoos. Here's where things got interesting. I enjoyed those treats, and they vanished quickly. But Megha had saved four Ladoos for January. "Why wait?" I teased, not realizing the significance. Megha, an accomplished founder educated at LSR and MDI Gurgaon, had a surprising reason. She had set herself on a diet challenge for the month, so she saved the Ladoos for January. Her reason touched me deeply. It wasn't just about Ladoos; it was about her commitment. Despite the joyous reunion and no one stopping her, Megha's self-discipline shone through. This incident got me thinking. Success isn't just in big achievements but in daily choices. Megha taught me that self-mastery is the real victory. Her story reminded me that even in life's sweetest moments discipline is key. PS: Loved the Ladoos, laughter, & lessons from a meet-up with Megha. Have you ever encountered a similar incident ? #leadership #success #mindfulness #childhoodmemories #friends #selfdiscipline

Business Leader | Convener IBPC UAE | Building Tech Ecosystems l Champion Sustainability, Technology & AI | Enterprise, Telecom, Consulting & Analytics | Ex-IBM | Offroader | Historian @ heart.
As 2023 drew to a close, I found myself immersed in the warmth of family and mentorship. Celebrating my father's Sadabhishekam ( exalted vedic ceremony performed when a couple witnesses a 1000 full moons) brought together kith & kin from varied walks of life, rekindling the spirit of our joint family system. The first week of January was equally enriching, reconnecting with my mentors and industry friends who built the grandeur of the “Communication/Telecom sector” for IBM India for over a decade. These gatherings were a vivid reminder of the strength, camaraderie, and energy inherent in our “close circle” units. Reflecting upon this, I authenticated a profound truth: the success of India’s businesses & our entrepreneurs, much like our successful stint in the telecom sector at IBM, mirrors the dynamics of a well-coordinated, “all in alignment” football team. Just as players seamlessly pass the ball across one flank to another, moving towards a common goal, so too does the Indian business thrive on the close-knit relationships within their ecosystem, akin to our principles of the ‘family uni’. This synergy, the emotional bond we share with our work and colleagues, is a testament to Bharat, the Indian ethos. Our workplaces often morph into extended families, nurturing strong connections and transcending textbook professional boundaries. So thus I believe, Bharat’s success is intricately tied to the success of its family units. And as we progress through time, the dynamics of these units continue to evolve. The rise of women in leadership roles and the changing landscape of parenting are reshaping traditional family structures. Despite changes & external influences- our core composition retains our unique ability to maintain tightness in our familial and professional bonds, a unique quality that continues to drive our businesses, family units & thus our nation forward. As we embrace 2024, let's commemorate this intrinsic strength of Bharat - the harmony and unity within our families and workplaces. These are the bonds that will help us tide challenges & propel us to greater heights in an ever-changing world. How have your familial and professional relationships shaped your journey? Do you see a reflection of this 'family unit' concept in your workplace? #family #team #professionalnetwork #teamwork #leadership #karthikramankr #telecom

" No one from EY India attended Anna's funeral " - From the letter of a grieving mother who lost her child !🙏 Yesterday, Young CA died namely Ms. Anna Sebastian Perayil from Kerala. The allegation is this happened due to overwork. This again indicates the horrible work culture in Indian Corporate companies following below - 1) If you want promotion you need to overwork somewhere ~14 hours at least. 2) If you want to be in good book of your leader you need to overwork and always talk good things like "Bhagwan k bad zindagi mein Sir aap hi ho" Will the firm take the responsibility of the children? The firm will spend crores in CSR spending, but will not take this responsibility. Why? Because it will make them accountable officially. Everyone will ask you to overwork but no one will take the blame for it. This is hard reality. If you want to change it, the bigger force will change you through termination. To lead a healthy life among this unhealthy competition - 1) Don't overwork and develop a habit to say blunt NO that we Indians often fail to do. 2) Don't create a unidimensional identity that without job you are nothing. Have a social identity which is not tied to your job. Remember always - God did not create you so that you work your last breath and someone else profit from it. I cannot imagine such a young talent is lost due to the overwork culture. We need to be better and more sensible to others in workplace because we are not machine. Work to live life. Don't work where your life has been trapped to do work. May Anna’s soul rest in peace 🙏💐. Her story is a reminder that your mental and physical health should be your first priority.Wish you all the best for journey to eternity.🙏
