We’re excited to have our Executive Director, Dato' Wayne Chen Zaoxiang, featured on 8world. In his thought-provoking sharing, Wayne highlighted a growing challenge in Singapore: the increasing difficulty in attracting young local talent to blue-collar professions. Wayne emphasises that the key to solving this issue lies not just in changing the perceptions of career choices among youth but also in fostering a societal shift. For blue-collar work to be truly valued, society must recognise and celebrate its importance. When we take pride in these roles, it inspires those who fill them to take pride in their work too. Even in tough conditions or with respectful salaries, a strong sense of pride can transform how individuals view their jobs. Let's work together to uplift and honour our blue-collar workers, ensuring that their contributions are celebrated and valued. Watch it below or view the full video here: https://lnkd.in/gUMc_mA3

Did you know May is the European Diversity Month, in which we’re all invited to act on our long-term commitment for diverse workplaces and inclusive societies? What are you planning to do to raise awareness in your organization about the importance of diversity and inclusion in the workplace (and across our societies!)? Which efforts are you putting your energy on that help build equal and inclusive environments for all, not only in May but across the year? 💡 If you don’t know where to start (aside from contacting me! 😉 ), the EU Diversity Self-Assessment Tool can be of help. Link in the comments (and it’s free to use). It can aid in finding out how well your organization is managing diversity and help you think how you can make further progress on this journey. For example: Are you actively creating a welcoming environment for all your employees and respecting their differences? Do you promote workplace diversity in recruitment and career progression? Have you put flexible working arrangements in place to meet needs that are specific to the diversity of your staff and enable them to contribute fully and to the best of their ability? Need a “why”? Among others, as the European Commission states very clearly: “In an era marked by constant change, European organizations need to adapt swiftly to ensure success. Diversity and inclusion are indispensable values for fostering innovation but also for cultivating a resilient workplace prepared to navigate the challenges we all face and overcome pressing contemporary issues such as: - Staying ahead by fostering a diverse workforce, ready to navigate now-a-days complexities - Adapting to environmental needs by integrating diverse perspectives that contribute to eco-friendly practices and responsible business approaches - Bridging skills gaps by fostering an inclusive culture that encourages continuous learning, collaboration, and the exchange of knowledge among diverse individuals” I believe we can do a lot better at including diversity in our organizations. Don't you? Let's profit from this May invitation to ignite some change! #DEI #EuropeanDiversityMonth #diversity #inclusion

Growing up in Malaysia, a country celebrated for its rich diversity, I had the privilege of being exposed to various cultures, languages, and traditions from a young age. Attending an international school further broadened my horizons, allowing me to see firsthand the beauty and strength that diversity brings to our communities. This early exposure ingrained in me a deep belief in the power of diversity to enrich our lives and drive positive change. As we witness the ongoing social unrest here in the UK, it's a powerful reminder that diversity and inclusion are not just nice-to-haves; they are vital for the well-being of our society. In the organisations we work in, and especially in healthcare, embracing diversity leads to better outcomes for everyone. A diverse workforce brings a wealth of perspectives that drive innovation, helping us to better understand and meet the needs of the people we serve. In healthcare, this is particularly crucial. When we value and include diverse voices, we are better equipped to address the unique challenges faced by different communities, leading to more equitable care and ultimately better health outcomes. But inclusion doesn’t happen by accident—it requires intentional effort and a commitment to breaking down barriers. As we approach National Inclusion Week at the end of September, with the theme 'Impact Matters,' it’s important to remember that making an impact doesn’t always require grand gestures. Small, consistent actions can lead to significant change. As Desmond Tutu wisely said, “Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.” So, what can we do to make an impact and foster inclusion in our workplaces and communities? 1. Broaden Your Horizons: Actively seek out and engage with different perspectives. Whether through reading, conversations, or experiences, expanding your understanding of others is key to being an effective ally. 2. Stand Up for Inclusion: Don’t just be a passive supporter of diversity—be an active advocate. Challenge practices and behaviours that exclude others, and use your voice to promote a more inclusive environment. 3. Connect and Support: Regularly check in with your colleagues and friends, especially those from underrepresented groups. Sometimes, offering a listening ear or a word of encouragement can make a world of difference. 4. Empower Your Team: For managers, fostering an inclusive environment is about more than just policies—it’s about action. Encourage open dialogue within your team, celebrate diverse perspectives, and ensure that everyone feels valued and heard. As we gear up for National Inclusion Week, let’s commit to being active allies and creating spaces where diversity is not just tolerated but celebrated. Every small step matters towards creating inclusive spaces for positive societal and healthcare changes. #DEI #NationalInclusionWeek2024 #ImpactMatters #InclusionMatters

As America approaches its 250th anniversary, Gen Z is showing a distinct preference for celebrations that emphasize inclusivity, diversity, and meaningful engagement with the country’s history. This generation, born into a digital age, places value on acknowledging both the positive and challenging aspects of American history. Research indicates that Gen Z is interested in celebrations that reflect a comprehensive narrative, including the experiences of historically underrepresented communities, ensuring that a variety of perspectives are represented in the commemorative events. Studies have also highlighted Gen Z's focus on activism and community involvement. Rather than opting for traditional observances, many from this generation are more inclined to advocate for celebrations that inspire action. Initiatives like environmental stewardship, volunteer efforts, and social equity programs resonate with this group, as they view America’s 250th anniversary as an opportunity not only to reflect on the past but also to address ongoing societal challenges. Their engagement often centers around creating a sense of progress and unity through active participation. Technology is expected to play a pivotal role in how Gen Z interacts with America’s 250th celebration. As digital natives, this generation frequently uses social media and virtual platforms to engage with large-scale events. Virtual experiences, online campaigns, and interactive content are anticipated to be significant elements of how Gen Z participates in the anniversary, utilizing technology to create and share meaningful connections. Their digital fluency will likely shape a modern approach to commemorating this historic milestone. #GenZ #America250 #InclusiveCelebrations #SocialJustice #DiversityAndInclusion #DigitalEngagement #CivicParticipation #AmericaAt250 #YouthPerspectives #TechnologyAndCelebrations #CommemorativeEvents

It’s South Asian Heritage Month! This month is all about celebrating the amazing, vibrant cultures and communities of South Asia and people of South Asian descent across the world. It’s a massive region and it’s also impossible to distil what South Asia is in all its wonderful complexities, but it’s a region that I am really proud to say I’m descended from. How are you celebrating this month? To businesses – South Asian Heritage Month runs from 18th July – 17th August. That’s a whole month that you can use as a springboard for change to smash barriers to progress for your South Asian employees. South Asian employees face numerous barriers to success in business, and while you celebrate your South Asian employees it’s also important to commit to tangible action for change for them too. Ethnicity Pay Gay According to the Fawcett Society, women of Bangladeshi and Pakistani heritage earn almost a third less than white British men. There’s also a 14.7% gap in earnings between Bangladeshi and Pakistani women and white women in the workplace. This disparity highlights the importance of intersectional initiatives that focus on the specific challenges groups within the broader ‘South Asian community’ face. Do you have the data to pinpoint how your South Asian colleagues are progressing through their careers and in your business? Are you able to locate where their progression might be stalling and where the infrastructure to support them may not exist? INvolve’s data & diagnostic tools can help. Education Do your employees have a base knowledge around South Asian identities, local contexts and histories to help them better advocate for their South Asian colleagues? Not all brown people are the same, and there may be regions in South Asia that your employees may not even recognise as South Asian (like Afghanistan!) so ensure that your employees are equipped to be allies and supportive of your South Asian employees my promoting and embedding learning, trainings and allyship-focused workshops. Employee Resource Groups Do you know what your South Asian employees want? Plug into relevant internal Employee Resource Groups in an allyship capacity to elevate and amplify their needs and advocate for them. On the flipside, if you are South Asian and you’re thinking of launching, refining or scaling up your employee resource group to maximise impact, our Effective Networks workshop at INvolve could be for you too. Be the change you want to see and your drive your organisation to accountability. What tips would you add? Happy South Asian Heritage Month to all my fellow South Asians across the world! We deserve all the career success and wins. 🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎 #SouthAsianHeritageMonth #SouthAsian #diversity #inclusion #belonging

We're excited to announce our first Enterprise Membership with The Authentic Asian! We would like to give a huge THANK YOU to Nestlé Health Science for recognizing the value of empowering their employees and supporting their continuous development. This enterprise membership not only reflects their commitment to excellence but also highlights the importance they place on nurturing talent within their organization. “When I first saw one of Misa’s posts on LinkedIn about The Authentic Asian, I was excited about the possibility of learning from other Asian women that were able to break the bamboo ceiling. In my current company, there are only a handful of Asian women that are VP and higher, so it has been challenging for Asian females to look for role models that look like them. How can we help each other be more successful regardless of where we are on the corporate ladder? I’m grateful to be given this opportunity to learn from other successful Asian women so I can give back to my employee resource group and thankful to my manager for sponsoring me." We are so excited to welcome Winnie Lee to The Authentic Asian community! Winnie comes to us with a wealth of expertise, and we are thrilled to have her in our community. What makes this addition even more special is the strong commitment her organization has demonstrated in investing in their team's professional growth. Check out Winnie's full bio: Winnie Lee is a chemical engineer by training and has worked for 2 Fortune 500 companies (Procter & Gamble and Nestle) during her career. Currently, she is a director in the Technical Applications group at Nestle Health Science. Winnie is passionate about advocating for Asian American equity in the workplace which led to her founding the first Pan Asian employee resource group in her division. The group has been active for 3 years and has accomplished highlighting cultural awareness to the workplace as well as providing professional development skills typically lacking in the Pan Asian community. Winnie is a first generation American Born Chinese raised in the Midwest.
