While you can’t control the weather, you can control how prepared you are for it. When driving during high winds, keep your distance from semi-trucks, larger vehicles or anything towing cargo, because they are more vulnerable to tipping over or losing control. Winter storms are impacting many southern states along with parts of the Northeast and Midwest. We urge drivers to stay off the roads when possible, but if you must drive, make sure to practice safe driving and prepare your vehicle using the following tips- 1. Reduce speed on icy roadways. 2. Turn on headlights when traveling through snowy conditions to increase visibility. 3. Make sure your vehicle is packed with an emergency roadside kit that includes items like jumper cables, reflectors/flares, flashlight, extra batteries, tire pressure gauge, blankets, etc.

With some bad weather on the way, National Highways TRIP campaign may be useful to encourage drivers to plan their journey in advance, including all necessary vehicle checks as well as factoring in rest stops before they set off on long journeys.
