I recently had the opportunity to engage in a thought-provoking conversation with Dr. Lydia Kostopoulos (PhD), a political scientist and founder of Abundance Studio. Dr. Kostopoulos, a renowned strategy and technology expert whose work with top-tier organizations like the United Nations, IEEE and NATO has placed her at the forefront of strategy, artificial intelligence, and global security trends.
In the tech world, there's a big focus on human longevity and moving beyond 'lifespan' to 'healthspan'. Ironically, this focus is happening when our average lifespans are actually going down in the US, especially for blue collar workers and minorities. One of the demographic groups seeing declines is men.
In this interview with Dr. Kostopoulos, I talk about some strategies for how all of us and men in particular can take actions to improve our long-term mental and physical health by investing in something we don't typically think about intentionally: our relationships.
During our exchange, I introduced the concept of 'Flourishspan.' This idea takes the conversation about longevity a step further, focusing on living a life that's not just long and healthy, but also meaningful, connected, and deeply satisfying. It's about crafting a life filled with purpose, where every day is an opportunity to engage with the world around us and maintain the vitality of our most significant relationships.
We dug into the strategies I employ with my friends to keep these connections alive, to stand firm together against the tide of loneliness and disconnection. Our talk also touched on the daily practices that keep me aligned with my purpose, ensuring that my work and personal life are not just productive but also imbued with a sense of meaning. It's about striving for a life that doesn't merely continue but thrives and enriches at every turn.
It's my hope that our conversation is practically helpful for others navigating the complexities of modern life where many of us struggle with work/life boundaries, harried schedules, and sense of precarity in face of technological trends.
A heartfelt thanks to Dr. Kostopoulos for this enriching dialogue and for her invaluable contributions to our understanding of the intricate dance between technology, strategy, and human fulfillment. I hope our discussion inspire you to chase a life that not only endures but truly thrives in all its facets.
