Have You Tried Turning It Off and On Again? A Technician's Perspective on Rebooting We've all heard the IT Crowd's famous line, but is rebooting really the best first step for tech issues? As an AV technician, I delve into why it's often not and how a deeper investigation can lead to a more permanent solution. Here's the full blog post: https://lnkd.in/g9kxj6fJ Want to read more of my posts about the AV industry? It's #FlippinFriday For a number of months now I have been talking about Flipping AV support from Reactivate to Proactive. There are many shifts that need to happen and this week the Flip was FROM: What is your response time. TO: What is you mean time to detection, MTTD "Response time" indicates you were waiting for something "Detection" indicates you were looking for something

How would you feel if - Your AV saviour was a virtual technician? It doesn't replace the dashing, debonair and highly skilled individual you all know and love of course. (Yes, I was referring to myself. Ok, the laughter is just unkind.) But It could save time, money and travel. Think about it... Supermarkets have self checkout, assistants are now virtual and everyone is looking to learn something new for personal development. So how would you feel about it? Is it one step too far OR a cost saving stroke of genius? #AV #VirtualTechnician #FutureThinking

Wireless V Hardwired: Understanding the Cost Dynamics of Fire Alarm Systems 💡 Cost is a critical factor when choosing between wired and wireless fire alarms. Wired systems are generally more cost-effective upfront, but installation expenses can add up due to cabling and labour costs. On the other hand, wireless systems, although pricier, offer lower installation costs and less intrusive repair processes. In the long run, wireless fire alarms will involve higher battery replacement expenses, and can experience external interference. But, with advancements in technology, the decision between wired and wireless systems is not one-size-fits-all. Embracing a "Hybrid" approach can offer the best of both worlds for comprehensive fire safety solutions. Remember, a wireless site survey is essential before designing the system. Did you know you could bring your dog along to your virtual wiring sessions any time of the day or night and even on weekends or bank holidays as we never close the door even if you bring a cute dog ! Virtual wiring is built on to a platform containing modules, the modules can contain any system, device or group of systems and you can simply virtually wire them in your own way in your own colour scheme in your own time. Use your mouse to pan and zoom around a module to change your view, this ability allows you to wire much larger modules than your actual screen size. It's not rocket science its virtual wiring. https://lnkd.in/eXgNdNcu Andrew #theserviceengineer #fireandsecurity #virtualprogramming #virtualwiring

Brightspeed is such a joke of an ISP, 3 major outages of 24+ hours each, the current one being almost 3 days, within the first 2 months of finally offering fiber service here. Zero support from their support options and their call center is only business hours M-F. I absolutely cannot wait for PRTC to get me connected next week to a proper network run by competent people and get off of this abysmal experience with Brightspeed, it's no better than when they were still forcing people to overpay for DSL. Clown show of a company that will only thrive in markets where they are the only option.
