Be honest, do you say #Cameraman? Rather than #cameraoperator? I am guilty of it myself, it's so easy to slip into familiar stereotypes. Wanderlust Action Films are on a mission to increase the number of female camera operators in the adventure brand space. #marketingagency pros: Ask yourselves this - how many female camera ops or directors have you seen in practical roles on #videomarketing shoots? On your latest #videoproduction - how many camera operators were women? How many Directors were women? Zero judgement - I know I have struggled to find them to hire! My career has been exciting and diverse and I'm fortunate enough to have filmed adventure documentaries and brand films in the middle of the Atlantic, up mountains, in deserts and trekking through rainforests. I was often the only female and occasionally my ability to do my job was called into question on account of my gender. Now, before we blame the men, that has been a judgement made by other women just as often, why? Because we don't see enough of us in those roles so even us ladies slip into gender-bias, doubting our own ability to do the job! So, I made a commitment that every Wanderlust Action Films production would be at an absolute minimum 50% female crewed. This is not because I don't want men on our jobs, I have so many awesome male creatives I love working with - but - I'm in a position of privilege and have a wealth of knowledge to share, and I feel it is my duty to help inspire a generation of women to break into this career. Having said all of that, it is HARD to find women in those practical roles. SO how do we change this? And how do we find them? Well, Wanderlust Action Films offer mentorships, internships, job opportunities and training courses. Both the UK and Australia offices are led by females. How do your values align? If you'd like to support this mission and engage this female founded company, please do get in touch

Video is not ‘one size fits all’ Pause that action packed montage reel you’re creating, just for a second, and ask yourself this: who is my audience? I’ve done a deep dive into this topic this week with one of our clients. Our fifth year of capturing video for the prestigious Superyacht Cup, Palma kicks off tomorrow! (I don’t go on as many sports events as I used to, my focus within the business has shifted so that opportunity is given to our trusted Wanderlust Action Films camera team, who have all the fun… and if you’ve ever been at a sailing event you’ll know just how fun they are!) But, this year I’m headed back to Palma to oversee a shift in our production strategy: a move to focus more on storytelling not just sporting highlights. Engaging your target customers is the number one purpose of video marketing so ask yourself this: who is your audience and what do they want to see? Video is not ‘one size fits all’ Different audiences: age, gender, location, interests… require a different video style. Your 15 second fast paced montage reels may be popular amongst Gen Z, but are they your target market? Start every video by thinking about your audience. A snippet here from our 2023 promo, can’t wait to get back and take our storytelling to the next level for 2024!

I am so passionate about this part of our business. The look on someone’s face when they capture a piece of footage or an image on a pro camera is absolutely priceless. My personal reason for my love of all things video/photo is that it turns a ‘beautiful moments’ switch on in your brain and you can’t turn that switch off. Golden light peaking through trees will stop you in your tracks and have you yearning to capture it. We up-skill tourism brands and businesses to help their in-house team create engaging original content. For a bespoke quote email: training@wanderlustaf.com Please do share with any business you think could benefit!
The time is now to train your own team in how to create engaging content - especially if you're a brand that relies mainly on sharing other people's posts. Our Wanderlust Academy equips your whole team with the skills to get them confidently creating video and photography in-house. We caught up with Srishti Narayan, Chief Marketing Officer at Tourism Fiji to find out how our training has helped her team, and here are some of the lovely words she had to say: "The Wanderlust Academy delivered content creation training to six Tourism Fiji team members in 2023, tailored to the everyday content creation tasks we tackle. The hands-on sessions gave the team practical knowledge about camera handling and housekeeping, shot planning, understanding lighting and interview techniques. We saw an immediate lift in the team’s content output following this training – the team is better equipped to brief and create, and is much more confident crafting beautiful content that is really resonating with our audiences." Launching Friday May 17th: A Four Part Docuseries Wanderlust Action Films produced for MUSTO. This project has been two years in the making and we are so excited to finally be able to share it! It has been such a pleasure to create a story-led film for a brand who are using their name for good and to drive change! We conducted and collated interviews with some of the world's best Pro female sailors, sent our female filming team off to capture onboard imagery, and pieced it together into four parts discussing topics around gender diversity in the sport of sailing. Presented by the one and only Tracy Edwards MBE. Don't miss out! Head to Musto's Youtube channel and subscribe to watch the series un-fold!

Let’s talk about the changes to the Meta algorithm and what it means for small creator accounts and large aggregate accounts (ones that rely on other people’s imagery). A lot of my work is within the tourism space, which hugely relies upon other people’s content. It has never been more important to upskill your in-house team in how to create engaging original content if you want your socials to grow and reach new audiences. Wanderlust Action Films runs workshops teaching our clients how to create awesome photography and videography in-house so get in touch if you need help! #instagram #digitalcreator #contentcreator #digitalmarketing #tourismindustry

A question I get asked a lot by my freelancer mentees is ‘how do I work out what to charge?’ Well here’s my quick 60second rundown on my morning walk of what you should be taking into account. Questions to ask yourself: How much experience do you have? What kit do you have? Is the job for one day, week or month? #careercoach #freelance #freelancevidographer #freelancevideoeditor #filmmaker #cameraoperator #digitalcontent

Storytelling is my jam, be it a Documentary at sea filming the wreck site of the Titanic (yes I did that) or a film that captures the essence of a brand. I love them both, and the first impacts the second in my work. What I love about directing brand films is the creative process, coming up with concepts and then seeing them through to a finished product. Plus, don't get me wrong - whilst I love to spend 7 weeks at sea, being on land and having the time to repeat shots until they're just right is very satisfying!
Storytelling is our favourite thing about video production, and as a brand the stories you tell really matter if you want to connect with your customer. For our clients at MSpa Hot Tub Global we were tasked with creating a film that puts their spa at the heart of the home. The concept of this film is that the hot tub bears witness to some of life's most wonderful moments, from a baby growing up, to an engagement celebration and a first time home owner. Throughout the video we see the product being used as the way to celebrate those moments. #enjoythemoment is their slogan and we certainly enjoyed conveying that. As part of our production service we also captured lifestyle and product stills as well as specific product videos demonstrating each spa's key features. Enjoy the film! #videomarketingstrategy #videoproduction #videomarketing #marketing #brandedcontent #brandelevation #brandidentity
