For this talk, I'll explore an idea I've been noodling on for awhile. I call it "real world test automation". When I described the idea to my son, he commented, "So, um, you're building a botnet". That's not exactly correct, but it's definitely one way to describe an idea that involves networking all the world's 6+ billion mobile phones together into one big network... When I quipped “not your dad’s mapping software” in the demo, I really mean it. In this demo, we showcased some serious technical eye candy: players moving across the field on a map. Instead of using a local coordinate system on an image, we (Wes Field ) opted for a global one. Each player was positioned in a real stadium on the map, a map overlay with our field image for added flair. This visualization included time series data with the actual latitude and longitude of each player’s position. Just imagine the possibilities – we could even have added the altitude of the ball during pass plays or field goals to elevate the experience.
