It’s that time of year when we come together to shine a light on men’s health issues … and grow some fantastic mustaches! Men’s health is in crisis. On average, men die 4.5 years earlier than women, often from preventable causes. Globally, around 10.8 million men face a prostate cancer diagnosis, and testicular cancer is the most common cancer among young men. Heartbreakingly, one man dies by suicide every minute worldwide, with men accounting for 69% of all suicides. That’s why many colleagues at Oxford and I are joining the Movember movement! Dear friends, I write to you with a heavy heart, seeking your urgent support for a dear colleague at JLL, Ramesh Rajasekaran, whose wife, E. Sivasankari, is battling Leukaemia (Blood Cancer). At just 30 years old, Sivasankari's life hangs in the balance as she undergoes treatment. To add to the urgency, they have a precious 1.6-year-old baby who needs her mother desperately. The news of Sivasankari's diagnosis shook their world to its core. They've poured their entire savings of approximately 6 lakhs into her treatment. But now, they stand on the precipice of despair, facing a shortfall of 35 lakhs for her life-saving bone marrow transplant surgery. Despite the darkness that surrounds them, there's a glimmer of hope – the dedicated medical team have outlined a treatment plan that promises a healthier future for Sivasankari. Please donate to help my buddy; River who was diagnosed with a rare syndrome; ATRX Syndrome, the result of a completely random mutation. This exceptionally rare genetic disease (less than 400 known cases worldwide) is the cause of River’s hypotonia, global developmental delays, including intellectual disability; and River is the only one with his specific documented mutation. As a result of this mutation, River will always have low-muscle tone, which makes it extremely difficult for him to learn to walk, talk, and it impedes his fine motor skills; and is also a intellectual disability. Dr. Allison Bradbury in Columbus, OH, is designing a complete genetic cure for all suffering from ATRX. While a full genetic cure is years if not decades out, Dr. Bradbury hypothesized that a cutting edge technology called Antisense Oligonucleotides (ASOs) could be designed and used to mitigate River’s specific mutation. We are now urgently raising funds for the tremendous cost to bring River’s developed ASO’s through the entire testing and FDA process so it can safely be used safely on him. As you might imagine, it is a complete race against time. With every passing day, River's genes replicate the mutation and his delays grow more permanent. By the time he is 5, much of it will be set. Chelsey Barnes-Shipley, my talented wife has taken up running to raise some funds for STXBP1 Australia, and all our STX families around Australia. The funds will support the research and studies our kids need to access the treatments and trials starting to show promise around the world. STXPB1 occurs when a genetic impact occurs at a particular place on the ninth chromosome. This specific gene controls the production of syntaxin-binding protein one, it's where that catchy name comes from. This protein has an important job, allowing brain activity to bridge those tiny gaps which exist at the end of each neuron. It means everything takes many more attempts to complete. It means whole of brain impacts on things like speech, motor skills and memory. It means kids like Coco need high levels of support their whole life. There are real leaps in understanding and potential for treatment and even cures seem more possible each day. Which brings me to my point. This month we are featuring University of Delaware student, Alpha Omega Epsilon Sorority at UD B+ Hero liason, and UDance Dance Marathon social media chair Diana Galante. Keep reading to learn more about Diana's involvement and dedication to the cause on her campus! What inspired you to get involved with UDance? A: I was inspired to get involved with UDance when I learned I could make on families of children with childhood cancer. Losing my uncle to colon cancer several years ago was very difficult for my family. My mother was also diagnosed with stage four genetic lung cancer, which was an eye-opening experience for me and my family. Mental and physical support continues to push us forward, and knowing I get to do this for another family is beautiful. 🌟 Q: What is your best fundraising tip? A: My best fundraising tip is finding funny ways to encourage people to donate. For example, I posted an Instagram story incentive that for every donation, I'd do a cartwheel at different locations on campus. Not only is this a fun way to fundraise, but it makes for a great outcome. I also use Facebook and LinkedIn to reach family and connections in the community. When you put time and energy into fundraising, the outcomes can be greater! 🌟 Q: What is the greatest lesson you've learned from your involvement with B+? A: I've learned how your outlook on situations makes or breaks your experience! I learned how much an organization like B+ can bring a sense of community to everyone involved. 🌟 Q: What advice would you give to someone who wants to get more involved with B+? A: My advice is to remind yourself WHY you want to get involved, and what B+ is all about. Remember that your time and dedication speak volumes and are important when being involved with B+!

(2) One in three seniors dies with Alzheimer's or another dementia. (3) Alzheimer's kills more than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined. (4) More than 11 million Americans provide unpaid care for people with Alzheimer's or other dementias. (5) In 2024, Alzheimer's and other dementias will cost the United States $360 billion.
