Overhauling of GE Steam Turbine, air compressor driver, of rated power 8020 HP A complete overhaul of the machine was carried out at the start of 2024. 👉 Machine is Air Compressor driver, installed at Bechtel Ammonia plant. 👉 Make: GE 👉 Year: 1964 👉 Rated Capacity: 8020 HP Major Findings: - Erosion in casing, diaphragms sealing area & rotor in LP stages - Increased interstage seal clearances - Slightly increased bush clearance in steam chest assembly Rectification & Replacement: ⭐ Replacement of rotor ⭐ Casing build up by welding, grinding & lapping done. Contact check of diaphragms ensured ⭐ Active side thrust pads replaced ⭐Steam Chest Bushing replaced. ⭐ Steam Chest linkages adjustment (Final result, RPM maintained within 2 rpm fluctuation) ⭐ All clearances maintained within recommended range ⭐ Centering carried out with dummy shaft ⭐ OST, Oil flushing carried out at end Major issue faced: 👉 Diaphragm side slip maintenance due to old bottom key design, rectified through time-takjng hit-and-trial by welding, grinding, & side slip check 👉 Butt gaps of seals, rectified by precisely filing seals, targeting minimum butt gaps.
