⚠️ When commissioning of critical machinery for first time, followings need to keep in mind. 🔌💧 Some utilities are also being commissioned at same time like Inst Air, LP N2, Seal gas, Cooling Water, Power etc so they might not be as reliable as expected. 🔋 Backup systems might not have been completely established like diesel generator, emergency lub oil pump, UPS, control system etc. 🔗 Sometimes, some of the interlocks are required to bypass during commissioning phase. Do check the risk is assessed properly and mitigation plan is in place. 🛡 Do check if your system is protected enough in case of failure of utility, and make sure appropriate interlocks are in line. e.g. low lub oil pressure or low flow of seal gas, so that it doesn't damage machinery parts. ⚙️

Nice article on an Alternative design option for Seal Gas Boosters for Centrifugal compressors ( CC) dry gas seals. During start up of CC s after a prolonged shutdown or trip or initial commissioning, often due to lower differential pressures across the systems, and in the event that there is unavailability of any external seal gas, Seal Gas Boosters are often the recommended alternative, to maintain required positive seal gas flow and differential at dry gas seals to ensure DGS reliability during startup till CC achieves full discharge pressure. Seal gas boosters often come as Centrifugal, reciprocating, air- mag drive. Reciprocating boosters are both OPEX and high maintenance cost intensive whereas Centrifugal design boosters usually have high CAPEX cost. Moreover to ensure seal reliability at all times, there is the requirement of redundant arrangement and hence 2×100% design is recommended,which involves a lot of O&M cost over its entire life cycle. This Article mentions a very unique design alternative to seal gas boosters, which due to its unique working principle described there in, offers a very cost effective option to seal gas Boosters.
