What is the difference between Airport, Aerodrome and Airfield? Airport: A place often with multiple runways where commercial aircraft regularly take off and land usually based on a schedule, it has buildings for passengers flight management (Control tower) and services such as refueling, maintenance etc. An airport is normally a commercial enterprise. An Airfield: is on a much smaller scale usually non commercial and used for private or irregular charter flights minimal runways and limited services can also be military. minimal if any control. An Aerodrome is an old English word that has been replace with the word airfield so aerodrome and airfield are the same. #airport #runway #aviation

✈ The first commercial passenger flight took place on 1st January 1914 between St. Petersburg and Tampa in Florida. The aircraft, a Benoist XIV piloted by Tony Jannus, carried a single passenger – Abram C. Pheil, the mayor of St. Petersburg. The flight lasted 23 minutes, covering 34 kilometres across Tampa Bay. 💸 The ticket for this flight was auctioned for $400, equivalent to over $10,000 today! This flight was groundbreaking, as it was organised by the St. Petersburg-Tampa Airboat Line, the first regularly scheduled airline offering public transport. NetJets and Pilots' Union Trade Work Slowdown Accusations | Aviation International News (ainonline.com) Voting for their own demise... In 2019 Netjets pilots ratified their current contract with an overwhelming 81% acceptance rate. In 2021 the deal was enhanced to the "strong support of Capt. Pedro Leroux, who is president of NJASAP" and extended out to 2026. “This creative and long-sighted deal creates a triple-win situation,” said Capt. Spencer Davies. But WAIT... Somewhere between contract signing in May 2023 the "triple win situation" was no more as NJASAP decided to picket the Berkshire Hathaway annual meeting, and is now working to harm the very business that gave it two consecutive best in class contracts that were overwhelmingly ratified. I'm sensing the NJASAP feels that the best in class contract is only good until it isn't, versus its expiration date... IMHO, the "pilot shortage" is weaning: Cargo market is down, BizAv flying is down, Spirit Airlines' longevity may be in question, AmeriJet just restructured and UPS suggested a few hundred of their pilots apply for jobs at PSA. Here’s a summary of the most popular regional jet variants currently in operation:   The ERJ170-200LR is the most widely used regional jet variant, with 578 active aircraft. Other popular models in the top five include the CRJ900LR (192 aircraft), ERJ190-100AR (183), EMB-145LR (176), and ARJ21-700 (123).   SkyWest Airlines operates the largest regional jet fleet, with 433 active aircraft—188 of which are ERJ170-200LRs. Other major operators are Republic Airways with 193 aircraft, Envoy Air with 159, PSA Airlines, Inc. with 129, and Endeavor Air with 120.   In terms of orders, the ARJ21-700 is the most in-demand regional jet variant, with 352 on order. It is followed by the ERJ170-200LR (175), ERJ190-400 (173), SJ100 (107), and SSJ 100/95B (32).   *Although Russian and Chinese aircraft order data are not be considered as firm or reliable as Embraer's. Boeing and Emirates SkyCargo announced an order for five more of the world's largest and longest-range twin-engine freighter, building on its earlier purchase of five 777 Freighters. The latest order, which was finalized in September and listed as unidentified on Boeing's Orders and Deliveries website, brings Emirates' order book to 249 Boeing widebody airplanes, including 14 777 Freighters. As the cargo division of the world's largest international airline, Emirates SkyCargo plans to operate 21 777 Freighters in the coming years ─ nearly doubling its current fleet of 11 freighters as the carrier continues to expand capacity.
