Consultant Zambia Integrated Resource Plan at Cowater International

Service first to the country, its gratifying to see that the impact of climate Change such as wat we are experiencing on the Natural water bodies and reduced water inflows into Lake Kariba and ITT dam was thoroughly investigated for over 100 years in the Zambia IntegratedResourcePlan #IRP Recently Launched. The plan proposes Developing 650MW of hydro facilities especially in the northern circuit. Distributed Renewable energy sources Solar and Wind combined at 1955MW, 50MW of Biomas in the near term 2020-2026. All these where arrived at by carrying out robust Demand Assessment, Generation planning and transmission planning using international recognised tools such #Antares Expansion, DigiSilent #Powerfactory etc. should we have developed projects that wher in the pipeline and feasibility studies already in place. we could have pulled through this drought situation smoothly. We need an SI in the constitution of Zambia which should not allow politicians to counsel projects that already has reached financial close using heart feelings. We need to put the country first above anything. 2026 is almost near and very little has been achieved so far towards power generation in the Northern circuit wher we have rich minerals and available water to support mechanised Agriculture. let's Please avoid mixing social sciences and Engineering.#Renewable energy, #Power Generation, #IRP, #CIGZAMBIA ,#Hydro power

Decisions made with a political lens will never last a life span nor benefit the nation hence the I support the introduction of such SI to protect such projects however, projects that are introduced for political reasons such as the Formular 1 roads or similar in nature are a drain to the country. Considering Climate Change is having devastating effects with the current El Nino causing havoc with reduced rains this year and Kariba may not get to required optimum levels, do we still need to invest in hydro power or we should now shift to Nuclear Power that in itself is also clean energy? Uganda recently announced plans to develop two/2 nuclear plants that will each produce 8,000MW with combined output at 16,000MW yet all our projected combined power generation in 30 years time from Hydro, Solar, Wind and Coal will just be slightly above 11,000MW. We have enough Uranium so why can't we take the step and do it? Without enough electricity our industries will never reach peak production levels and our exports will be hampered hence our Kwacha will not be strong enough and inflation will follow.

We need to also align our planning in an integrated fashion that looks at resources beyond energy to ensure policy and CAPEX commitment coherency
