As electric vehicles become mainstream, it's crucial to understand proper charging practices. Here are five common pitfalls to sidestep: 🔋Constant 100% charges: Regularly topping up to 100% can degrade battery health. Aim for 80% for daily use, reserving full charges for long trips. 🔌Excessive short charging sessions: While "opportunity charging" seems convenient, frequent brief top-ups may stress the battery. Allow some depletion before plugging in again. ⚡Over-Reliance on Rapid Charging: Fast chargers are great for road trips, but routine use can heat the battery, potentially reducing its lifespan. 🚗Poor charging station etiquette: Be considerate: Move your vehicle once charged, especially during peak hours. Park properly to ensure others can access nearby chargers. By avoiding these mistakes, you'll maximize your EV's performance and lifespan. What other EV charging tips have you discovered? Your EV battery is the powerhouse behind your green ride and maximising its lifespan is key to enjoying years of sustainable driving. Here's how to extend your EV battery life: Mindful Charging: Opt for slow, level 2 charging whenever possible to reduce stress on the battery. Avoid frequent fast charging and limit charging to 80% capacity to minimize wear and tear. Charging overnight when electricity demand is low can also be beneficial. Smooth Driving: Gentle acceleration, steady cruising, and gradual braking not only improve safety but also reduce strain on the battery. Avoid aggressive driving habits that can drain the battery faster and accelerate degradation. Remember, smooth is the new fast Maintenance Routine: Stay on top of regular maintenance checks to ensure your EV is in top condition. Monitor tire pressure, schedule software updates, and adhere to manufacturer-recommended service intervals. Keeping your EV well-maintained can prevent potential issues and prolong battery life. Avoid Deep Discharges: Minimise deep discharges by not letting the battery drain to low levels regularly. Aim to keep the battery charge level between 20% and 80% whenever possible. Deep discharges can accelerate battery degradation and shorten its lifespan. Software Updates: Stay informed about software updates provided by the manufacturer. These updates often include optimizations for battery management and performance enhancements that can improve battery longevity. By implementing these tips and adopting eco-conscious driving habits, you can maximize the lifespan of your EV battery and enjoy years of sustainable driving. The EV Guy - Consulting, Education & Content ⚡️ A central hub for Salary Sacrifice, Recruitment, Finance & Leasing, Car Park Charging, Home Charging and Fleet Insurance.
How far do you drive each day? ⚡️ The area below shows roughly the area you could cover for a commute each day, without having to stop to charge if returning home to charge. It’s also highly likely that driving outside of this area would result in a natural pit stop anyway, regardless of what powertrain you drive, which means times for charging while stopped, if needed. You could also factor in public charging with a minimal amount of planning if you had no access to a home charger, or charger withing walking distance of home. The average person drives less than 20 miles a day. https://lnkd.in/egw5YFYp While I’m not the type to push EV on people, claim they are perfect or for everyone in every situation, they suit the vast majority of people. Around 70% of people also have access to some form of off street parking. https://lnkd.in/e-8p-Wqc This is a huge portion of the population where an EV would suit their use case perfectly. When you add in potential savings for running an EV over a comparable ICE, it’s no wonder we are seeing EV registrations continue to rise as well as market share, despite all the constant negative backlash. https://lnkd.in/eb2jW8YN #ev #electriccar #electricvehicle #evcharging #netzero #sustainability #greenerfuture
