Upstock.app • Co-founder – Digital marketplace for foodservice & grocery • Xero co-founder, former Head of Design • Startup investor & advisor
At Upstock, we’ve been shifting into a new phase of the business. We’ve got strong product-market fit – our growth rate is high, churn is super low, we’re expanding internationally, and expanding into new market segments. We’ve shifted from the early stage of finding product-market fit into the scale up phase. And that requires a change in the way we operate. Since the outset, Duncan Ritchie and I have worked as a Co-CEO team – and it’s been awesome. As we've started shifting into the scale up phase over the past year, I’ve been more focused on growth, marketing, user experience, and related areas. Meanwhile, Duncan has been focused on operationalising the business. We felt it was time to formally update our roles to reflect how we’ve evolved into this new stage. Going forward, I’m taking on the title of Chief Experience Officer (CXO) while Duncan will remain as CEO. We’re both still Directors and we’re both co-founders – we’ll continue working together extremely closely on growing the business. This just formalises the way we’ve been operating for the past year or so. In terms of my CXO title, it really encompasses everything I do. I’m not a CMO, the scope of my work is broader than that. Chief Experience Officer encompasses the overall customer experience – it overlaps and interconnects growth, marketing, product, plus elements of sales and support. It’s about creating a cohesive, seamless, high quality end-to-end customer experience – that’s my area of expertise and passion, and I love that I get to focus on that. It’s been an enormous privilege to serve as Co-CEO. I'm super proud of my role getting this business off the ground, building an exceptional team, product, brand and generating the momentum it's got. It’s thrilling to be moving into this next stage of the business, and I’m extremely grateful to Duncan for taking over as CEO.

There's been a lot of discussion around the "Flywheel" effect of ecosystems and partnerships, but I haven't actually seen a visual on this to illustrate what it would look like. Here's a visual I put together anchored around the idea of: 1. In the prospect phase, you want to start by giving value. This build trust and gives the partner confidence to move forward with you. 2. In the partner market fit phase, you want to validate as quickly as possible that the partnership will be successful, and this is driven by customer wins together. 3. In the strategic phase, you want to accelerate that partnership with focus and proper resource allocation. If you have thoughts and ideas, I'd love to hear your version of what a partner flywheel looks like.

Think your MVP is ready to bring in the big bucks? Let's find out! At 7L, we know that a great product starts with the right foundation. Every day, we get requests for MVP development, but we don’t just stop at building your product. We take it a step further by helping you validate your Unique Value Proposition (UVP) and Ideal Customer Profile (ICP). Why does this matter? Because getting your UVP and ICP right means more money in your pocket. It means your product resonates with the market, attracts the right customers, and maximizes your ROI. Plus, a well-validated MVP significantly increases your chances of securing funding from investors who are looking for solid, market-ready solutions. Here's how we do it: 1️⃣ Validate Your UVP: Ensure what you offer truly stands out and meets a real need. 2️⃣ Confirm Your ICP: Identify and understand your perfect customer to tailor your approach and boost conversions. 3️⃣ Maximize ROI: A validated UVP and ICP lead to more efficient marketing, better customer acquisition, and increased revenue. 4️⃣ Secure Funding: Demonstrate to investors that your MVP is based on solid market validation, increasing their confidence in your business potential. By focusing on these critical elements before diving into design and development, we help you build a product that not only works but thrives in the marketplace. Ready to turn your MVP into a money-making machine and attract investor interest? Let's talk. 💬 contact@7linternational.com #BusinessGrowth #MVPDevelopment #MarketValidation #StartupFunding #7LInnovations

New Post: Beware the “Something for everyone” strategy Start-ups don't have the resources to be everything to everyone. You have to focus on one product for one customer segment. Once you have product-market fit, you scale within that segment. It's easy to say, "Our target market is everyone". It's also easy to fail. Rather pick one niche and be laser-focused. https://lnkd.in/eE8i-HS7
