Supporting educational institutions reach their student recruitment and engagement goals from Latin America | Expert in student recruitment & engagement | Dad of 2 girls
Is what to study now more important than where to study for Latin Americans? For Mexican students 71% say ‘yes’ according to the latest Keystone Education Group report on Latin America. This means highlighting the key features of your institution’s top programmes is just as important as highlighting the location. Even more interestingly, according to Keystone other top priorities Latin American students consider when choosing an institution are: 📕 Program content and modules (63.5%) ✏ Work placements / internships (59.4%) 👨🏫 Quality of professors & teaching (49.8%) In many of the marketing material recommendations we at EdCo make for our partners, we often advise highlighting 4 key points: details of the top programs broken down into bitesize chunks, share course syllabi in an easily accessible way, highlight career opportunities and internships to really stand out, and of course provide nice pictures and facts about the location.

During the 2022-23 school year, the University of Arkansas saw a significant increase in the number of students participating in global learning experiences, reaching a record 1,255 students studying abroad—a 10% increase over the previous record in 2018-19. This surpasses the national average, with student participation rates at 8%. The university offers high-quality faculty-led programs, contributing to strong faculty engagement and transformative experiences for students. Students explored 42 countries, with Italy being a popular destination, hosting 609 students, including 340 at the Rome Center. The fall 2022 semester marked a historic high, with 103 students studying at the Rome Center for a semester. Other top destinations included the United Kingdom, Spain, Japan, Chile, and the Republic of Ireland. The Sam M. Walton College of Business sent the most students abroad, followed by the University of Arkansas - Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences and the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design. The University of Arkansas Office of Study Abroad & International Exchange is actively promoting scholarship opportunities, with 40% of U of A students applying for the Gilman Scholarship receiving it—above the national average of 25%. The university aims to make global experiences accessible to all students, and the growth in participation, particularly at the Rome Center, reflects a positive trend. Students, like Kayla Hart, who studied architecture in Rome, value the opportunity to apply their knowledge and gain unique experiences, including internships, contributing to a richer educational experience. "Studying in Rome gave me a chance to apply the architectural history and theory classes that I had taken before moving abroad," she said. "My favorite memories while studying abroad include the many places I was able to visit, as well as the experience I gained through my internship program. The internship program also allowed me to experience the work culture in Italy, which is not something I could have experienced outside the program." As part of my internship, I have participated on 28-29 February at the Governing Board Bureau of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe. During this meeting, the Bureau has discussed the 2023-2024 certification cycle and has prepared the recommendations for the EPA Governing Board, that will take place on 21-22 May 2024 in Luxembourg. The Enlarged Partial Agreement (EPA) on Cultural Routes follows the policy guidelines of the Council of Europe, decides the programme strategy, and awards the “Cultural Route of the Council of Europe“ certification. #culturalroutes #culturaldiplomacy #culturalheritage #europeanheritage

3rd year International Relations & Organisations student ~ Undertaking a joint minor programme between Leiden, Erasmus and Delft focusing on African Dynamics
Dear network, over the course of six weeks this summer, I had the incredible opportunity to intern at the Western Cape Government's Department of the Premier (DotP), where I contributed to developing the 2025-2030 Provincial Strategic Plan (PSP). My role involved gathering and analyzing departmental reports and compiling high-level outcome statements for the four portfolios from the 2021 recovery plan: Safety, Wellbeing, Growth for Jobs, and Innovation, Culture, and Governance (ICG). Additionally, I assisted with creating executive priorities and outcome statements provided by the national government mandates to guide departments in coordinating and adapting their annual strategic plans while aligning with broader provincial goals. Through this internship, I gained a deep understanding of the bureaucratic process and the complexity of implementing government policies and strategies. This experience revealed the intricate layers of governance, the challenges of ensuring policy coherence across various levels of government, and the difficulties of accommodating various departments' development targets. As a political science student focusing on international relations and organizations, I found this experience highly insightful. The internship not only provided me with a deep understanding of governance but also a unique opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge about organisations that I have been learning over the course of my bachelor's degree. It showed me how multi-level governance functions in practice and how departments collaborate to balance their unique goals with shared provincial objectives. These lessons have deepened my understanding of strategic planning, policy development, and the coordination required to achieve meaningful outcomes in governance. #GovernmentInternship #ProvincialStrategy #GrowthForJobs #PublicPolicy #InternationalRelations #WesternCape #SouthAfrica
