Peer Recovery Support is not just a job; it's an ecosystem of mutual aid and empowerment. In this perpetual model, each individual in recovery utilizes their unique skill sets to guide and support others through the challenges of recovery. It's a collaborative journey where each person contributes to the growth and healing of the community. Peer Recovery Support thrives on the idea that everyone has something valuable to offer, and by sharing their experiences and knowledge, individuals can uplift one another towards sustained recovery.

🌟 Peer Support Relationships are built on eight core principles. At Imroc, we’ve been sharing these principles, and today, we’re focusing on Recovery Focused 🌟 In a Peer Support relationship, Recovery Focused refers to the idea of centering the individual at the core of their experience in the context of their own life rather than focusing on a patient in services. Recovery is: 💙 The belief that all people deserve to live a good life and unique to each person 💙 Being trauma informed and acknowledging trauma can happen for many reasons and take many forms 💙 Not the right word for everyone - each individual has the power to define their own experience using language that is meaningful to them Being Recovery Focused in peer relationships inspires hope, encourages opportunity and centres the individual to harness control in their experiences. 🎥 Hear more from Danny Bowyer as he shares his reflections on Recovery Focused in peer support: https://lnkd.in/e8heUE2U

Happy Global Peer Support Celebration day! I’m so grateful for Peer Support existing in my life, even as I’ve never utilized formal “direct peer support services.” I got peer support from my friends in high school that helped me deal with the hard bits of life then. I got peer support from the after school abstinence based substance use recovery program, both the participants and staff (neither of whom were trained in “Peer Support”). I’ve received peer support from other folks in my field, and from strangers online. Most recently I’ve been receiving peer support from colleagues in my field, but also specifically from strangers online about the medical diagnoses I’ve found out about. Peer Support is a movement that grew out of people with shared experiences supporting each other. We created alternatives to systems because the systems failed us. We started working within systems to try and make change from the inside out. We continue to show up. If you know a Peer Supporter, make sure to tell them you appreciate them and the work they do. We should be doing it consistently, but use this as a reminder to reach out today. #recovery #peersupportworks #peersupporters
