Italy's recent decision to ban synthetic foods and restrict the use of "meat" for plant-based products is a step backward in food innovation. Here’s why: Sustainability: Synthetic and plant-based foods offer a way to feed the growing population while reducing environmental impact. Lab-grown meat can cut emissions by 96% and uses 99% less land than livestock farming. Health & Safety: These foods undergo rigorous testing, offering controlled nutritional content and reducing contamination risks compared to traditional meat. Economic Growth: By banning synthetic foods and limiting plant-based labels, Italy is missing out on a billion-dollar industry, job creation, and investment opportunities. Cultural Evolution: Food culture evolves with societal changes. Terms like "vegan meat" help consumers make informed choices without threatening traditional cuisine. Scientific Evidence: Research shows consumers aren’t confused by plant-based labels. Clear labeling is essential for transparency and choice. Conclusion: Instead of bans, Italy should set standards for synthetic and plant-based foods, allowing innovation and tradition to coexist while promoting sustainability. #vegan

We need to learn from the Italians. Italian Senate overwhelmingly passes a bill to ban cell-based/synthetic foods. Says these fake foods are more like pharmaceutical products and should be treated as such. https://lnkd.in/d7AnpPdz h/t @bigfatsurprise
