Disadvantaged communities often face higher rates of preventable diseases due to limited resources and awareness, putting children in government schools at particular risk. Regular preventive health workshops are crucial for addressing this issue, providing essential information on hygiene, nutrition, disease prevention, and healthy living. These workshops enhance health and academic performance and improve long-term life outcomes for students, fostering stronger, more resilient communities. On July 20th, volunteers from Oracle Health conducted a preventive health workshop and distributed health kits to over 150 students in grades 1 through 5 at Thirumenahalli Government School in north Bangalore. This effort, part of Embassy Charitable Trust's Outreach programs, underscores our commitment to driving collective action and delivering essential education and healthcare to all, regardless of socioeconomic background. Our support extends beyond this event to include daily maintenance, teacher assistance, and a proactive health program. Volunteering has the power to transform communities, creating a ripple effect of positive change. Join us in supporting communities and driving meaningful change! There are several things we must not forget. One of them is the struggles members of underprivileged societies face. Here are three common problems they encounter and ways in which we can assist: 1. Educational Barriers: - Problem: Many underprivileged individuals lack access to quality education, which limits their potential for personal and professional development. - How to Help: Support educational initiatives by donating books, school supplies, or technology. Volunteer as a tutor or mentor, and advocate for policies that improve educational access and quality. 2. Healthcare Access: - Problem: There is often a lack of affordable and accessible healthcare, leading to untreated illnesses and a lower quality of life. - How to Help: Volunteer at health clinics, support health education programs, and contribute to organizations that provide medical aid to those in need. Advocate for healthcare reforms that increase accessibility for all. 3. Food Insecurity: - Problem: Food insecurity is a pressing issue, with many unable to afford or access nutritious food regularly. - How to Help: Donate to food banks, participate in food drives, and volunteer at local soup kitchens. Support policies that aim to reduce hunger and improve the availability of healthy food options. By addressing these issues through direct action and advocacy, we can make a significant difference in the lives of underprivileged individuals and communities. #humanity #givingback #impactmaking

Securing a significant grant like the $1.1 million from The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust is a strategic move for Living Goods in the context of Burkina Faso's security-deficit setting. In such environments, where security challenges may hinder the delivery of essential services like healthcare, digitizing community health services becomes even more critical. By digitizing community health services, Living Goods can potentially mitigate some security risks associated with physical outreach, such as travel restrictions or dangers faced by health workers. Moreover, the focus on data-driven decision-making facilitated by the electronic community health system (#eCHIS) aligns with strategic purchasing principles by ensuring resources are directed to where they are most needed and can have the greatest impact. Real-time data can inform resource allocation, identify areas of high need, and track progress towards health outcomes, all of which are essential in security-deficit settings where resources may be limited or constrained by instability. Overall, the strategic partnership between Living Goods and The Helmsley Charitable Trust demonstrates an understanding of the unique challenges posed by security-deficit settings and a commitment to leveraging innovative solutions to overcome these challenges and improve health outcomes in Burkina Faso.
𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐚 $1.1 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐚 𝐌. 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐲 𝐁. 𝐇𝐞𝐥𝐦𝐬𝐥𝐞𝐲 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐧 𝐁𝐮𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐅𝐚𝐬𝐨. Living Goods is honored to announce our new partnership with The Leona M. and Harry B. The Helmsley Charitable Trust. This critical funding will allow Living Goods to support Burkina Faso’s Ministry of Health in its efforts to build a robust electronic community health system (#eCHIS). This will ensure that community health workers (#CHWs) in Burkina Faso can provide continuity of care, at a higher quality, to patients at the last mile; decision-makers can access real-time data and leverage data for decision-making; and health interventions can be implemented with increased efficiency and intentionality. Ultimately this will put the country on a path towards achieving Universal Health Coverage and improving health outcomes. This initiative aligns with The Helmsley Charitable Trust's commitment to increasing access to quality healthcare for remote communities in sub-Saharan Africa. We are deeply grateful for The Helmsley Charitable Trust's support. Together, we can create a healthier future for communities in need.

Today I donated blood for the first time and I had a flood of thoughts as I attended the event: 1. Photos are evidence and a marker of change: But have they just been limited to visibility, for donors and consent taking. Beneficiaries have limited say on how their stories are to told.. but how do you make this process beneficiary centered? 2. Working with vulnerable population in communities: This is an amazing idea lets provide an awareness session on this! How often have we heard this sentiment in a room full of development professionals? Are needs assessment part of any project activities? Do we want to maximize the benefit with the limited resources we have? 3. Health camps: These spaces are amazing places to conduct public health interventions. People want to get their blood pressure measured when they attend screening camps.. an important observation but what is the referral mechanism for this? How do you divert communities to services? 4. How do you approach communities?: From the way you present yourself, to the methods you use, to your flexibility.. these have to be a part of the intervention otherwise your intervention fails. I hope these conversations take place to ensure that our interventions are effective, resourceful and of quality.

As an NGO leader, my journey through various slums has exposed me to the heart-wrenching realities faced by the most vulnerable. This underscores the critical importance of several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): eradicating hunger, ensuring education for all, and promoting health. Shockingly, 90% of children in the slums lack access to basic education. I met a young girl in the Makoko slum who was hawking instead of attending school. Her parents told her she needed to work so they could eat. School wasn't even an option. When I asked if she'd like to go to school, she shouted "YES" with extreme joy, sharing her dream of becoming a nurse. Every child has the right to dream, and education is key to achieving those dreams. She is now one of the children we have enrolled in school through our Slum to School project at Ewaade Foundation Inc. Access to healthcare is another significant challenge in underserved communities. When I lived in the Makoko slum some years back, we had to pay to use pit toilets built over water near where people live, posing serious health risks. Young girls use leaves and clothing materials for menstruation. We are addressing these issue to the best of our capacity Ewaade Foundation Inc. by distributing sanitary pads that can last 4 to 5months to young girls in the slum every year, but lasting, sustainable solutions are needed. Hunger remains a major issue. In the slums, mothers often can't produce milk for their babies due to malnutrition. I met a woman with twins who were dying of hunger because she had nothing to eat herself. These challenges are immense, but so is our collective potential to create change. I am calling on like-minded individuals and organizations to join me in this mission. If you share this vision of creating a lasting, sustainable impact in the lives of the vulnerable, let’s connect and make things happen. Together, we can make a difference. Let's turn empathy into action, ideas into initiatives, and dreams into reality. Join me in this crucial endeavor to eradicate hunger, promote education, and ensure health for all. #SDGs #HungerEradication #EducationForAll #HealthForAll #NGO #SustainableDevelopment #JoinTheCause #MakeADifference
