Fun Fact Friday: The Heart of the Office Admin & HR Assistants! Did you know? Administrative Assistants and HR Assistants are often the unseen heroes, keeping operations smooth and people connected. Just like a strong foundation supports a building, they support teams with organization, patience, and a willingness to serve. * Fun Fact 1: The best administrative assistants are multitasking pros—handling calls, managing schedules, and ensuring everything is in place. Proverbs 31:27 reflects this spirit perfectly: “She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.” Like a watchful steward, a great admin is always attentive to the details that matter. * Fun Fact 2: HR Assistants play a crucial role in creating a positive workplace culture. They’re the “people connectors,” ensuring each team member feels valued and heard. As Romans 12:10 reminds us, “Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.” In HR, showing respect and care for each person is essential! * Fun Fact 3: Both Admin and HR roles require patience and kindness—skills that help smooth out any workplace challenges. Colossians 3:23 inspires this mindset: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” Whether coordinating a meeting or resolving a team issue, putting heart into each task makes a lasting difference. 💡 Quick Takeaway:Let’s appreciate the administrative and HR assistants who embody these values every day. Their work behind the scenes is essential, reminding us that true service often happens in quiet but powerful ways.

In my role as a Tech HR professional, I’ve learned that the success of any organization lies in the interconnectedness of all its teams. While a software company heavily relies on its developers, business analysts, IT, and other core teams, it’s equally dependent on the often-overlooked office staff, such as cleaners, kitchen personnel, and support staff. These individuals form the backbone of daily operations. Imagine a day without clean offices, functioning kitchens, or logistical support—productivity would come to a standstill. Just as developers depend on office staff for an environment conducive to work, the office staff rely on competent, ethical administration for direction and fairness. I’ve observed that the strength of an admin team is reflected in the behavior of the office staff. When admin teams are ethical, professional, and responsible, they foster a culture of accountability and respect. ‘However, dishonest or irresponsible admin often create an environment where certain staff feel protected despite unprofessional behavior, while others, who are honest and hardworking, may face undue pressure or unfair treatment.’ A critical part of my role has been to ensure that every individual—be it a developer, business analyst, accountant, or office staff feels valued and supported. I strive to build policies and practices that promote equality, fairness, and respect across all teams, ensuring no one is overlooked or undervalued. At the end of the day, every individual contributes to the organization’s success, and recognizing this interconnectedness fosters a stronger, more united workplace culture.

We interviewed HR Coordinator Becka Ruiz-Guerrero to find out more about her job at Open Door and what being a HR Coordinator is like! Q1. Can you tell us what interested you in working at Open Door? A1. I was drawn to Open Door because of its strong community focus. The mission statement (when I was hired), which emphasizes 'providing quality care regardless of barriers,' deeply resonates with me. After experiencing high costs for care elsewhere in Humboldt County, I appreciated knowing that Open Door is committed to accessible, high-quality care for everyone. Q2. What is a typical day like working as a HR Coordinator in the medical field? A2. Each day as an HR Coordinator in the medical field is both varied and consistent. I spend a lot of time addressing employee questions and supporting daily HR functions. Recently, I've been focused on implementing our new HRIS system, which has been both exciting and challenging. Q3. What do you like best about your job? A3. I enjoy interacting with people at all levels of the organization. Solving problems with different departments to achieve our goals has been particularly rewarding—it's an experience I didn’t have in my previous jobs. Q4. What advice would you give someone who is interested in working as a HR Coordinator? A4. Start by gaining a solid foundation in HR, including knowledge of labor laws related to wages, resignations, and terminations. Focus on developing effective communication skills and make an effort to understand your organization well. HR often serves as the first point of contact for employees seeking specific employment information, so being well-informed and communicative is key.

🥳 HAPPY NATIONAL HUMAN RESOURCE DAY! 🥳 Human Resource Professionals deserve more than a day of recognition. These incredible professionals juggle a lot of balls. They must have strong ethics and are skilled in communication, organization, and conflict management. I can't imagine juggling the responsibilities HR professionals deal with daily. In small businesses, the business owner often handles the functions of HR management. As the business grows, the role may be assigned to an office manager. In large companies, there is an entire HR department, considering all the different functions they perform. They are responsible for career development and growth, providing guidance and support. HR handle hiring/firing and delivering employee-valued programs. They develop and maintain a positive working environment, internal issues, training. And the list goes on... They must often be multi-taskers with a lot of patience and discretion. ❤️ Reach out today to someone you know in Human Resources and thank them for the work they do.
