#Truck #telematics is a prime enabler of increased accountability, efficiency, and greening in the trucking industry. It's a fleet manager's favourite assistant. Telematic devices have evolved from periodic vehicle tracking systems to real-time #cloud-based #fleetmanagement solutions. Companies that develop #fleetmanagementsolution integrate #ECUs, chipsets, GPS receivers, SIM cards, accelerometers, etc., onto the truck that sends data over a network to the cloud infrastructure. Through this, a #fleetmanager can: a) Monitor fuel usage b) Track wheel end temperature c) Sense and analyze cargo volume d) Remotely lock the truck engine and so much more. Is "telematics" the same as "connected vehicles?" Sorta. Telematics is commonly known as the technology of collecting and processing data coming from vehicles - information like vehicle positioning, speed, and driver behavior such as rates of acceleration. Telematics devices can be built into vehicles, can be added in the after-market, or can be apps on phones. The concept of connected vehicles, on the other hand, is exactly that - vehicles that are connected to each other or to external infrastructure. Connected vehicles can receive software updates just like cellphones, can work together to improve traffic flow, can be operated remotely, and yes - can collect and send telematics information. Company leaders in risk management, HSE, and fleet are seeing the line between the two blur as technology advances and devices develop broader capabilities. Want to know how to use telematics and connected vehicles in your organization? Drop an emoji in the comments and I'll send you a free whitepaper. #telematics #connectedvehicles #risk #safety

What will better mobile connectivity mean for your next vehicle? 🚕🚗 5G already connects vehicle factories and has grown as the technology in new models. So far, 4G has given up software downloads, up-to-date maps, and cars that call themselves after a crash. I am curious about how the applications we have talked about for a decade will play out and which new ones we have missed. 🧠 How will AI transform connected cars? 💽 Will data upload be a bigger traffic generator than software download? 🔋 Will cars guide us to the places with the shortest charging lines? #5G #ConnectedVehicles
